Job Description
The Business Intelligence (BI) Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting scalable, enterprise Power BI solutions and administering the Power BI service for our internal customers. The BI Architect must possess deep expertise in Power BI, data modeling, BI architecture, desire to enable data-driven decision making and self-service analytics. The architect will be responsible for applying the necessary controls to ensure data integrity, performance and privacy of bank data.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Architect, design, develop, and maintain end to end business intelligence solutions based on Microsoft Power BI platform. Responsible for defining the strategy to continued build-out and adoption of the Power BI platform at the bank. Develop and manage an enterprise semantic model that enables consistent, reusable business logic across Power BI objects and teams. Collaborate with data engineers to create scalable and flexible data models optimized for Power BI report and dashboard delivery.
Manage the Power BI service including workspace and capacity management, gateway configuration, usage metrics, monitoring, and auditing as well as permissions. Drive efficiency through automation wherever possible. Stay current on new features available within the platform.
Serve as the SME for Power BI Architecture, design, and build. Define and share best practices to raise collective skill across the enterprise. Create and share documentation, guide cards, and templates to standardize and aid in development of new Power BI objects including SDLC requirements. Act as a resource to partner with business users to guide on the effective use of semantic models, templates, and reports. Educate users on new analytics platform datasets available as well as new features of Power BI platform.
Work with internal customers to understand requirements for reporting, dashboards, and reports. Build and maintain an inventory of dataset needs to be prioritized and built as required. Coordinate with data engineers to align focus for delivery.
Off-hours support, on a rotating schedule, is expected. Job will be based out of the Wakefield, Massachusetts location.
PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING:
The Business Intelligence Architect will define the plan and execute to expand and improve adoption of Power BI throughout the organization. The resource will design and model enterprise datasets to facilitate re-use and improve delivery performance of datasets presented through Power BI. They will collaborate with data management peers to drive and prioritize the build of ETLs to feed Power BI datasets. The incumbent will partner with various teams to build rapport, establish partnerships, and prioritize datasets to be deployed moving the organization forward along the journey towards data-driven decision making. Additionally, the resource will research and troubleshoot issues with existing reports and dashboards and capture business requirements and develop innovative solutions meeting those requirements.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience
- 7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence architecture and data modelling.
- 5+ years of experience with Power BI development experience.
- Experience with ETL Processes and data integration tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory)
- 4+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL server or other SQL
- Expert level proficiency with at least two BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Business Objects, MicroStrategy, etc.).
- Proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M Language)
- Demonstrated experience with relational data warehouse design and management.
- Demonstrated experience with SDLC, agile scrum methodology, software tools and practices.
- Experience securing and managing reporting including PII data a plus.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to analyze user requirements and build front-end BI applications according to specifications.
- Strong knowledge that demonstrates database technical functionality such as performance, security, and reliability.
- Should understand and be able to contribute to all phases of the software development life cycle.
- Strong ability to collaborate in the development of necessary processes, technologies, and standards.
- Self-directed and comfortable working in a face-paced environment where priorities can change with limited notice.
- Strong and effective inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of users and staff. Ability to clearly articulate process requirements and expected outcomes.
Working Conditions:
Persons holding this position are generally subject to inside environmental conditions having the lighting, temperature, and noise level of an open floor-plan office environment (moderate, but occasionally loud at times). This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The employee will occasionally be required to travel to other work locations.
