Job Summary:

The System Technician is responsible for the maintenance, support, and security of Law Enforcement Unit’s security technology and communications systems. The level of work knowledge required is considered basic with an understanding there will be on the job training, as well as industry training provided. This position will require supervision and oversight.

The Systems Technician position in the LEU Technical Services Unit (TSU) is part of a small team providing routine 24/7 support for the department’s critical security systems and applications. This position is not expected to have a mastery of physical security/video surveillance systems, but the expectation is the technician will acquire and demonstrate a working knowledge of physical security/video surveillance systems and technical skills in areas such as network infrastructure, hardware, and software environments, overtime and through training, resulting in effective troubleshooting techniques and business analytical skills in all of these areas.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Assists with the administration and support physical security systems including but not limited to alarm, access control, and video surveillance systems.
  • Troubleshoot and mitigate problems and errors within service level targets.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of system/application incidents and takes corrective action as appropriate to prevent future occurrence.
  • Maintain a close relationship with internal and external service providers which support LEU systems to ensure effective and timely resolution to issues.
  • Support daily production activities and upgrades to applications or environment.
  • Physically install, modify, and remove LEU security, surveillance, or communications devices.
  • Perform programming, monitoring, and resolving problems on LEU System devices at the direction of the Captain of Administration & Technology Section (ATS) and the Command Center (CC) Lieutenant.
  • Works as part of a team to provide 24/7 LEU Systems support on rotation schedule.
  • Works with the Captain of ATS and the CC Lieutenant to identify vulnerabilities and problems involving the implementation of new and existing technology.
  • Keep current with local IT policy and perform vulnerability management activities.
  • Obtains and maintains certifications in all new and existing LEU technology systems to effectively maintain & troubleshoot systems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Update technical support documentation and procedures when appropriate.
  • Data Analysis
  • Ensures the security and integrity of all systems, equipment, and data, and responds to outages and other issues.
  • Performs system administration activities for messaging systems, databases, and web applications.
  • Assists with implementing Implements and enhances processes and technical documentation, creates back-up procedures, test plans, and reports.
  • Assists with creating and maintaining standard operating procedures for in scope systems and responsibilities.
  • Manages and implements compliance with both local IT and System policies and standards.
  • Assists with the coordination Coordinates to plan, design, and schedule the release of all software, hardware, and operating system updates.
  • Collaborates and participates in system audits, and implementing policies, procedures, and technical solutions
  • Basic understanding of IP Subnetting.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, and holiday as required.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds, walk distances necessary to traverse the building and grounds, climb several flights of stairs, crawl under desks/consoles, work in network closets, climb ladders, operate equipment (such as lifts), operate power tools, possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Physical security experience in one or more of the following areas is desired:
    • Access control and badging systems
    • Video surveillance, analog, IP cameras and encoder technologies
    • Perimeter intrusion detection
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 1 years of work experience in information technology, management information systems, database management, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of IT compliance policies and procedures
  • Independent thinking, problem solving, and sound judgment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, multi-task, and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server, Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, Visio, and SharePoint
  • Proficient with information security applications
