Alternative Risk Premia Quantitative Intern

QRI Quantitative Research

The QRI Quantitative Research group provides research and analysis to portfolio managers and other investment professionals in support of our broad range of multi-asset investment solutions. This research is vital in helping portfolio managers to select the most suitable investment options and manage asset class and risk exposures across all investment solutions. Members of the team either work directly within a specific investment team or support all investment teams.

The Position

Fidelity is seeking a Quantitative Intern to join the QRI Alternative Risk Premia division, working as part of the Quantitative Research team. The position will be located in Boston, USA, or such other mutually agreeable location. As part of the research team, you will help to research and develop a variety of systematic strategies, approaches for strategic and tactical asset allocation, as well as help to refine our tools for risk management and portfolio construction. This work will improve the process used to manage Fidelity’s mutual funds and client accounts and will also aid in the design and launch of new products. Ideally you will have some multi-asset class investment acumen, strong quantitative, programming and data management skills, and the ability to think analytically, communicate clearly and work collaboratively.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Partner with portfolio managers and research analysts to conduct needed research for the team
  • Stay abreast of the latest academic and industry developments in premia design and implementation
  • Explain complex quantitative concepts to non-technical people; mentor other quantitative analysts
  • Present research to key stakeholders

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree in mathematics, engineering, science, finance, or business
  • Strong working knowledge of data analytics languages (specifically Python) and data management tools (SQL)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a real passion for working in a team environment
  • Familiarity with both cash and derivative instruments – equities, fixed income, futures, forwards, swaps and options is desirable but not necessary
  • Highly proactive and self-motivated with the ability to meet objectives independently
  • Experience with Bloomberg/FactSet is a plus
  • Experience with conducting financial analysis like back-testing, computing statistical measures is a plus
