The range of investment solutions include managed accounts, financial planning frameworks and custom solutions.

Strategic Advisers is a registered investment adviser and Fidelity Investments Company and serves as the investment manager to all Fidelity managed accounts offered by Fidelity’s Portfolio Advisory Services and through Fidelity’s Wealth Management Advisory Services. We construct and manage asset allocation portfolios for over 3.6 million customer accounts.

Strategic Advisers is looking for an Investment Manager to join the Client Investment Risk Management (CIRM) team in our Boston office. The CIRM team monitors unintended investment risks in millions of customer accounts to ensure client outcomes match intentions and no portfolio left behind. This team is responsible for impact analysis and remediation when issues arise that could affect SAI’s client accounts.

Primary Responsibilities

You will play a significant role in SAI's next generation of sophisticated investment solutions which include custom multi-account investment management and asset location strategies, optimized participant level portfolios and unified managed household assets in retail and workplace accounts. You will collaborate with numerous business partners to enhance our independent bottom-up risk framework for all managed account products. You will combine investment expertise with a high degree of technical proficiency to provide tax-sensitive, customized management of multi-asset class portfolios to our clients. You will also develop tax-aware transition strategies for high-net-worth clients.

Client Investment Risk Management

  • Create logical and efficient queries and visuals to provide timely, accurate and insightful client data analytics to support business partners across the organization.
  • Partner with SAI’s embedded Data Scientist team to develop the next generation of risk prediction and management programs via AI and Machine Learning.
  • Work within the Portfolio Engineering group to prototype and provide technical design requirements for innovative approaches to analyze and monitor client portfolio investment risk and characteristics.
  • Lead the end-to-end issue remediation process and collaborate with other parts of SAI and Fidelity, including Business Oversight, Portfolio Management, Research, Technology and Operations to improve our client investment risk management process.

Portfolio Management

  • Manage individual client portfolios consistent with SAI's investment philosophy and the unique personalization of each client portfolio. Implement investment strategies based on market movement, tax management opportunities, changes in the model portfolio or investment choices.
  • Develop a deep understanding of internal analyst and portfolio manager research on individual securities, ETFs, mutual funds, portfolio construction and business cycle positioning to achieve superior pre- and after-tax returns consistent with the SAI’s investment philosophy.
  • Craft customized communication incorporating analysis on performance attribution, portfolio positioning and market review for specific client portfolios.
  • Monitor and carry out fiduciary responsibilities with a high-level of integrity.

Experience and Education

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Two to five years investment experience in research, portfolio management, trading, risk management or technology development in these fields.
  • Experience with AI/Machine Learning algorithms and implementation is a plus.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong skills in SQL, data visualization via Tableau or Power BI, Python or R programming are required. Experience with Git/GitHub for version control or cloud platforms like AWS is a plus.
  • Understanding of portfolio theory and quantitative portfolio construction techniques in a taxable environment.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, a creative approach to problem solving and the ability to multi-task.
  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively in a highly team-oriented environment.
