The Role

The Director, Strategy and Planning is a cornerstone role on the Abandoned Property and Legal Operations Team. The Director will collaborate with Abandoned Property and Legal Operations Leadership and our business partners to develop our strategy, identify and track our key initiatives and priorities, and measure our progress. The Director will be responsible for end-to-end data management, including data accuracy, and the creation and maintenance of new and existing reports to support the needs of the business. The Director will use data to build compelling storylines and visuals to inform our team, our leaders, and our business partners, and to promote effective decision-making. This role is strategic and analytical, and it will balance strategic planning and oversight with execution of critical tasks.

Strategy and Planning: As Director, you will lead the strategic planning process to establish team priorities and ensure organizational alignment. You will facilitate KPI development to measure the team’s progress toward goals, provide visibility into the team’s deliverables and outcomes, and drive accountability across the team. You will work across Abandoned Property, Legal Operations, and our business partners to develop and track shared KPIs, and to measure the cross-Fidelity impact of our business. Additionally, you will manage business reviews, capacity planning, budgeting exercises, and all-associates meetings.

Data Analytics and Reporting: You will use data analysis and visualization tools to synthesize data and trends, develop actionable insights, build storylines, and craft presentations that inform key decisions and tackle business problems. You will provide analysis to measure and evaluate the performance of the business and distill results for senior management-level reporting. You will create data management policies and implement best practices to ensure data integrity and to empower a data-driven culture. You will collaborate with partners across the business, analytics, and technology to deliver analytics solutions, including the potential build of a data warehouse.

People Manager: You will manage a small team, providing leadership, coaching and development to your associates.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 8+ years of proven experience in data analytics, finance, strategy, and/or management consulting

  • Experience directly managing and coaching associates

  • Strong knowledge of financial, reporting, presentation, and data visualization tools, including PowerPoint, Excel, Tableau, PowerBI, and ThinkCell

  • Passion and a sense of purpose that inspires and motivates those with whom you work

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to represent complex concepts in a clear way and to develop compelling and impactful presentations

  • Confidence, professional maturity, and presence to work independently and to collaborate well across all levels of the organization

  • Solid understanding of data and database concepts, tools, and technologies

  • Ability to break down sophisticated data in well-structured analyses and synthesize key points

  • Unmatched organizational and prioritization skills, and meticulous in detail

  • High degree of ownership and accountability for results, and ability to take initiative, learn quickly, and think independently

  • Desire to seek creative solutions that challenge the conventional approach

  • Ability to build trust and credibility with peers, senior leaders, and business partners

  • Series 7, 24, or 99 a plus

The Team

The Director of Strategy and Planning reports to the Vice President of Abandoned Property and Legal Operations. The Abandoned Property team and the Legal Operations team sit within Fidelity’s Enterprise Services Compliance Team. Both teams directly impact Fidelity’s customers and their experience with our firm. The Abandoned Property team is responsible for firm-wide adherence to abandoned property rules and regulations, managing abandoned property multi-jurisdictional examinations, ensuring the timely reporting of abandoned property for multiple businesses and legal entities, and partnering with the business to find and engage lost or inactive customers. The Legal Operations team responds to legal inquiries for customer accounts, including court orders (e.g., garnishments, guardianships, beneficiary disputes), subpoenas, levies, and class action cases.
