The Department

Strategic Advisers, LLC. (SAI) is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 20 years SAI has specialized in the design, construction and management of asset allocation solutions, as well as the methodologies for many of Fidelity’s investment planning tools, to help investors reach their financial goals. With over $ 1 Trillion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third party investment vehicles, the SAI team of investment professionals constructs and manages asset allocation portfolios for over one million customer accounts. As part of SAI, the Private Wealth Management Investment Team is focused exclusively on providing investment solutions for Fidelity’s highest net worth clients.

The Role

  • Strategic Advisers is looking for a Private Wealth Senior Investment Manager to join the team. Fidelity’s Private Wealth Management team provides personalized, integrated and comprehensive wealth management advice, planning and investment management to high-net-worth clients. The offering has evolved into a successful wealth management capability with demonstrated success in retaining and developing Fidelity’s largest and most complex clients who seek more personalized investment solutions. This person will be responsible for managing and implementing SAI’s most innovative and sophisticated investment solution to solve complex investment needs for our clients using customized asset allocation and asset location strategies. As part of the Private Wealth Management Investment Team, this role will involve collaborating with a team of wealth management experts to create tailored investment solutions that integrate with a wide range of sophisticated wealth management capabilities. The managed portfolios this role will be responsible for will range in size from $2 million to potentially $150 million, with combined total managed assets ranging from $4 - $10 billion. As part of playing a role in SAI's next generation of managed account strategies, the candidate will be required to act as an investment thought leader on new investment concepts within Fidelity.

Primary Responsibilities

I. Portfolio Management

  • Manage individual client portfolios utilizing complex portfolio construction techniques that involve the coordination of asset allocation, asset location and broad vehicle selection across a wide range of equity and fixed income asset classes.
  • Develop a deep understanding of internal analyst and portfolio manager research on individual securities, ETFs, mutual funds, portfolio construction, and business cycle positioning in order to lead the translation of best ideas into client portfolios to achieve superior pre- and after-tax returns consistent with the SAI investment philosophy.
  • Drive the concept of “investment planning” by integrating a client’s financial plan with their investment plan in order to create highly personalized portfolios for the client through proactive portfolio construction

strategies, incorporating the impacts of estate planning, large quantities of legacy investments, complex compensation plans, highly customized liquidity needs, and complex registration types such as partnerships, corporations, LLCs and a full range of trusts.

  • Mastery of portfolio construction and investment analytic software to implement complex portfolio construction across multi-account registration types while being able to decipher and clearly understand the impacts on investment risk and return characteristics.
  • Help to define and evolve future investment philosophy, investment process, and participate in helping to generate and provide new ideas for future technical design requirements for the investment platform.

II. Client Engagement

  • Provide highly adaptive communication on complex investment concepts to a wide range of Fidelity’s highest net worth clients, which may include highly successful leaders across different industries, ex CEOs of major corporations, successful entrepreneurs and sometimes other highly sophisticated investors.
  • Collaborate with Fidelity’s Wealth Strategists to quickly generate key observations about a client wealth plan, potential pathways for appropriate investment solutions, and an implementation strategy of the investment plan.
  • Generating customized communication incorporating analysis on performance attribution, portfolio positioning, and the impacts of capital market events on specific client portfolios.
  • Ability to present detailed investment processes, philosophies, and capital market dynamics in front of larger groups including both internal colleagues and external clients.

Qualifications

Experience/Education

  • Graduate degree preferred; degree or emphasis in finance/accounting/economics subjects strongly preferred.
  • Existing or progress toward CFA, CPA, or CFP credential.
  • Proven experience in a direct client facing role, preferably with HNW clients.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant investment experience in research, portfolio management, or trading. Experience with SMA/UMA/UMH investment management a plus.
  • 15 plus years industry experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to operate in a fast paced environment with an adaptable skill set, creative problem solving skills, and the ability to multi-task
  • A high level of communication skills with an “Executive” presence that has a balance of substance, style, and confidence.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, as well as superior analytical skills that allow for independent judgment and decisive reasoning while dealing with significant time constraints.
  • Solid understanding of quantitative portfolio construction techniques in a taxable, private wealth environment.
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of wealth management strategies involving financial and estate planning.
  • Must have superior ability to work effectively in a team with a high level of collaboration, a strong spirit of innovation, and a high level of comfort in undefined environments.
  • Ability to travel on a quarterly basis as client communication is split between phone calls, video conference and on-site visits.
