Vice President, Family Consultant

The Role

The Fidelity Center for Family Engagement (FCFE) transforms the family-advisor partnership to move beyond the individual client experience to the family. We envision a world where families grow closer together as they navigate their financial lives. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and empower families and advisors to spark and sustain conversations about the emotional, relational, and generational aspects of wealth. This role will carry out our mission with a family facing expertise in partnership with the advisor community.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Experienced practitioner in consulting, coaching, and advising families of wealth, family businesses, and or family offices – 5+ years.
  • Practice knowledge of family engagement and conversation strategies with experience in facilitating family meetings and intra-family conversations.
  • Subject matter expertise in areas such as family systems theory, family psychology, family business frameworks, behavioral finance, financial therapy, leadership theories, or similar fields.
  • Experience in facilitating financial, business, wealth planning, and succession planning conversations in the family and or planning context.
  • Demonstrated success in facilitating and teaching larger groups and applying new content to generate individual and family change outcomes.
  • Applied research capabilities, including reading and synthesizing primary and secondary research, partnering to build interview-based cases, and using data to frame a problem or conversation.
  • An interest in innovative thinking, novel learning theories, developing new applications of content, program development, and strategies for expanding business scope and impact.
  • Degrees such as a master’s in psychology, MBA, Family Communication and/or Conflict Management Certification, or Family Enterprise Certification are preferred.
  • To facilitate family conversations and deepen the advisor’s relationship in the family wealth system, including increased engagement with spouses and next generation family members.
  • To focus on the client’s family and wealth transitions with a commitment to the client’s longer-term financial well-being and the firm’s generational relationship through time.
  • To extend and deepen the firms' relationships in high net worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) families through a more systemic and conversational approach to planning.
  • To be a process consultant and coach to the advisor community to build their family engagement and process facilitation capabilities with family clients.
  • To offer clients and their advisors an objective family-focused point of view on the client’s present circumstances pertaining to their wealth, transition of their wealth, family relationships, and future decision-making that will impact the larger family wealth system.
  • To track and measure engagement outcomes against Fidelity’s client-based outcomes to communicate the type of value offered to Fidelity’s HNW families.
  • To be a leader on the FCFE team for all their relationship-based skills frameworks and programs in the family-facing space.
  • To be part of a team that offers a differentiating family engagement capability to the firm, including providing one-to-one and one-to-many coaching, creating a replicable family meeting and engagement process, and delivering end client events.
  • To build your own SME capabilities to extend and evolve FCFE content and delivery and be a co-creation partner with business partners in the larger organization.
  • Experience in engaging with High Net Worth/Ultra High Net Worth end-clients and families in an individual and collective family context.
  • Passion for driving holistic family wealth transition and estate planning outcomes while creating closeness in the family.
  • Superior facilitation, consultative, and presentation skills to individuals, family meetings, and larger-scale events and workshops.
  • Experience in adult training, leadership frameworks, process consultation, and coaching models.
  • Sophisticated thinking and facilitation skills for communicating complex concepts to get change in the family system.
  • Ability to learn, integrate, and deliver new content quickly, and to adapt it to different family situations and business requirements.
  • Understanding of business priorities, competitive environments, and how your work translates into FCFE and business outcomes.
  • Proven ability to drive initiatives and coordinate effectively across a highly matrixed organization with peers and senior leaders.
  • Experience in co-leading projects and co-creating facilitation and learning approaches to meet shared outcomes and objectives.
  • Expertise with malleability around developing content, training programs, pedagogical design, and facilitation strategies.
  • Travel expected 25% of the time
