Position Description:

Works with front office investment management tools in quantitative, systematic, long/short derivatives, and/or hedge fund domains. Collaborates with other technology team members to build scalable, reliable and highly available technology solutions. Enables consumption and operational support of quant models. Creates a framework for delivering and monitoring in a production setting. Utilizes Quants/Engineering and UX team to develop user-friendly interfaces for real-time monitoring of profit and loss, order tracking, and portfolio performance. Provides analysis leadership on complex systems analysis projects, often across subsystems and companies, in a matrix organization. Consults with business users to develop recommendations that address difficult and complex business needs and opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leads and conducts interviews with business users to gather requirements, and analyzes technology needs and system and workflow challenges.
  • Develops recommendations that address difficult and complex business needs and opportunities.
  • Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex systems analysis projects, and defines project scope.
  • Leads other analysts in the execution of documents on large and complex projects and monitors the quality and progress of documents created by other analysts.
  • Designs new systems based on requirements.
  • Leads and participates in the definition of test strategies, and coordinates user acceptance testing efforts.
  • Communicates progress of multiple projects to management, engages stakeholders on a regular basis, and manages expectations of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serves as industry subject matter expert, and identifies other subject matter experts who are the sources of requirements for large and complex projects.
  • Works with other teams to evolve standards and best practices for systems analysis processes.
  • Participates in incident/crisis management to assess business impact, determine/facilitate any workarounds, in concert with the production support organization.
  • Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies.
  • Coaches and mentors junior product analysts and developers on systems analysis techniques and business workflows.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, Mathematical Finance, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst (or closely related occupation) analyzing, designing, and implementing system enhancements and existing functionality maintenance in major front and middle office investment systems (Charles River IMS or BlackRock Aladdin).

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, Mathematical Finance, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst (or closely related occupation) analyzing, designing, and implementing system enhancements and existing functionality maintenance in major front and middle office investment systems (Charles River IMS or BlackRock Aladdin).

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) analyzing business problems and summarizing requirements to lead the design and development of investment management systems according to Scrum and Agile methodologies, using JIRA platform.
  • DE performing quantitative and qualitative analytics (optimization technique, financial valuation, and risk analysis) to analyze platform data, triage issues, and provide strategic options, using SQL and Excel.
  • DE performing portfolio analysis (risk model and exposure analysis) generated by portfolio optimizers (MSCI Barra and Axioma) to identify business opportunities and challenges.
  • DE developing verification plans and processes and performing validation and testing tasks using Application Programming Interface (API) tools (Postman) to ensure implementation results align with industry best practice.
