The Role

Based in Boston, the Term Life Product Manager is a key member of the Fidelity Investment Life Insurance (FILI) growing product team that drives the product strategy, development and management of life insurance and annuity products to provide value to Fidelity customers. This role will oversee the full lifecycle of FILI’s digital term offering - lead product strategy, development and enhancement in collaboration with large and diverse cross-functional teams and external partners / vendors. The ideal candidate combines strategic and analytical thinking with deep domain knowledge in life insurance products and excels at influencing stakeholders across the organization.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Product Strategy / Roadmap:

    • Collaborate with cross functional teams (Marketing, Technology, Actuarial, Underwriting, etc.) to define the vision and roadmap for Digital Term Life offerings (e.g. target customer, pricing strategy, channel strategy etc.) to achieve strategic objectives.

    • Maintain and clearly communicate Digital Term product strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with key stakeholders across the organization and driving execution of the roadmap.

    • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify user needs, assess market opportunities for product enhancements.

    • Facilitate cross functional effort (e.g. marketing, distribution and operations) to identify opportunities to improve the end to end digital customer experience

    • Partner with distribution to ensure alignment of target customer, value proposition, pricing strategy, and integration into the Fidelity ecosystem

    • Collaborate with Actuarial, Underwriting, Marketing to monitor competitive pricing, refine pricing strategy and execute on pricing updates.

  • Product Development:

    • Communicate product requirements and guide the Technology team and other key stakeholders to execute on product enhancements

    • Develop detailed product specifications, applications and regulatory filings in collaboration with product actuaries, compliance, underwriter, technology and cross-functional teams

    • Partner with FILI marketing and distribution team to set initial product sales goals, identify customer engagement opportunities to meet those goals and to create training and marketing materials for new products

  • Product Management:

    • Define, establish, maintain and publish sales reports and other key performance metrics for management reporting

    • Define, establish, maintain and analyze user data to measure the product's success and identify areas for continuous improvement.

    • Work with compliance and actuary as needed to ensure on contract and other filing documents are consistent with product specifications

    • Partner with Operations, Actuarial, Compliance etc. on maintenance of forms

    • Manage relationship with external vendors on data access & updates

    • Collaborate with Marketing and Distribution on enhancements and growth initiatives for the product

    • Partner with Distribution to identify new integration opportunities across the Fidelity enterprise and potentially with external partners

    • Review and maintain product training materials and customer facing articles

  • Provide product expertise to support strategic initiatives:

    • Participate in the development of innovative product offerings for FILI’s overall product roadmap by contributing life insurance product expertise, customer perspectives, and industry market insights

    • Act as a Subject Matter Expert on Fidelity insurance-related initiatives related to term life insurance

    • Collaborate with diverse teams across Fidelity to support a variety of insurance related projects

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in developing, launching, and managing life insurance products

  • Experience with retail Digital Term or other digitally distributed financial products is strongly preferred

  • Experience with UL, WL, and Group Life product development and product management is a plus

  • Strong strategic thinking, project management skills with experience influencing cross functional groups without authority

  • Self-starter - able to assess what work needs to be completed and how to get it done

  • Proven track record with building and maintaining positive relationships as you work collaboratively across teams

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex and technical concepts to stakeholders across different levels

  • Knowledge of financial services products, and the role of life insurance in financial planning

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, proactively identify risks and execute risk mitigation strategies

  • Expert in Microsoft Excel and strong user of other Microsoft products

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Most roles at Fidelity are Hybrid, requiring associates to work onsite every other week (all business days, M-F) in a Fidelity office. This does not apply to Remote or fully Onsite roles.
