Job Description:

Are you passionate about using experimental design and statistical inference to improve product offerings? Are you ready to step into a position in crafting the use of experimentation to improve every aspect of the customer experience? Do you want to enable better measurement and decision-making from campaigns and experiments?

If yes, we want you to join our upbeat and hardworking team and make a real-world difference for Fidelity’s 36 million individual investors.

The Team

We are looking for an expert in experimental design and statistical inference to help develop and drive strategic analytical initiatives. As an integral part of the Marketing Measurement and Analysis team, you will contribute to improving our use of experimentation and statistical methods. You will lead designs of complex experiments across the Fidelity Wealth organization, serve as a thought leader, and help drive culture and governance to help us further in our growth as a test and learn driven organization.

You’ll, also, be a key member of our team driving the future state of methodology in our in-house measurement platform. You will help enhance platform statistical methods, work with engineering on implementation, and lead education for adoption. The team will look up to you as a subject matter authority in experimental design and statistical inference.

The optimal candidate will have a mix of knowledge and experience in experimental design, statistical and causal inference; combined with programming skills, communication abilities, and talent at working with teams. This role can be in our Smithfield RI or Westlake TX or Boston MA offices.

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • PhD (preferred) or Masters in a quantitative/field such as Statistics, Biostatistics, quantitative Social Science (including but not limited to economists), Epidemiology, Public Health, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 3-5 years post PhD or 7-10 post Masters of proven experience applying experimental design and statistical inference to academic and non-academic problems. If academic, please list publications in resume.
  • Postdocs and early career scientists/faculty/adjuncts are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Strong understanding of core concepts in experimental design including randomization, blocking, factorial designs, cluster designs, and so forth.
  • Expertise in using and explaining statistical inference methods for experimental and quasi-experimental circumstances; ideally using both frequentist and Bayesian approaches.
  • Statistical experience using a mix of modeling and inference methods with cross-sectional, longitudinal and time-series data.
  • Experience developing experimental designs; ideally in a marketing, web, social media, industrial, pharma, or other corporate context. Candidate would, ideally, have some experience in A/B testing, email experimentation, and similar problems in a corporate setting.
  • Experience working on cross-disciplinary teams that include engineers, scientists, and non-technical team members.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming, modeling and analysis using Python or R. Familiarity with core libraries in either language.
  • Experience querying and analyzing data with contemporary databases such as Snowflake using SQL (and scripting languages as needed.)
  • Some experience using data visualization tools or libraries.

It is unlikely that anyone has all the above expertise so please don’t hesitate to apply if you only meet a subset.

The Skills You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in learning and adopting the right method for the right problem.
  • Proven track record presenting to non-technical audiences — delivering relevant insights through data analytics/research and then communicating sophisticated data, analyses, statistics, and research findings in a simple, clear, and relevant way
  • Ability to form strategic partnerships to deliver value for key partners
  • Exemplify passion for your work, operating with a sense of purpose that encourages and motivates the entire team.
  • Enthusiasm and energy at collaborating, educating, and helping create community around better uses of experimentation and statistical inference.
  • Natural intellectual curiosity, initiative, and love for learning new skills and capabilities.

The Value You Deliver

  • Empowering customer experience and product development teams with cross-business and meaningful insights to enable objective, informed decisions
  • Formulating and executing learning agendas, raising strategic and provocative questions that stretch the thinking of the team
  • Continuously improving analytic capabilities and spreading that knowledge and expertise throughout the organization to facilitate self-service
The base salary range for this position is $107,000-216,000 USD per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.

We offer a wide range of benefits to meet your evolving needs and help you live your best life at work and at home. These benefits include comprehensive health care coverage and emotional well-being support, market-leading retirement, generous paid time off and parental leave, charitable giving employee match program, and educational assistance including student loan repayment, tuition reimbursement, and learning resources to develop your career.
