The Department
Strategic Advisers, LLC (SAI) is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 30 years, SAI has specialized in asset allocation solutions, as well as crafting methodologies for many of Fidelity’s investment planning tools to help investors reach their financial goals. With over $1 Trillion in assets under management, SAI manages asset allocation strategies for over one million customers. The Portfolio Engineering (PE) function within SAI is responsible for the management, customization, and execution of individual client portfolios. Within the PE function, the Personalized Wealth Management team is focused on our clients’ most complex investment situations.
The Role
The Associate Investment Manager will join the Portfolio Engineering (PE) team within Strategic Advisers, LLC (SAI) in our Boston office. This person will play a meaningful role in SAI's next generation of sophisticated investment solutions. The role will combine a high degree of technical proficiency with investment expertise to build scalable solutions to solve complex investment problems and deliver greater personalization to clients. This role is primarily focused on providing tax-sensitive, customized management of multi-asset class portfolios for taxable individuals and trusts. You will learn and implement our account level management strategies with an objective to improve after-tax returns while controlling risk.
Responsibilities
Portfolio Management
- Manage individual client portfolios consistent with Strategic Advisers' investment philosophy and the unique personalization of each client portfolio. Implement investment strategies based on market movements, tax management opportunities, changes in model portfolio or investment choices, and risk improvement.
- Apply analytical and problem-solving skills while being able to decipher and clearly understand the impacts on investment risk and return characteristics
- Develop a deep understanding of internal analyst and portfolio manager research on individual securities, ETFs, mutual funds, portfolio construction, and business cycle positioning to achieve superior pre- and after-tax returns consistent with the SAI’s investment philosophy
- Monitor and carry out fiduciary responsibilities with a high-level of integrity
Investment Planning/Support
- Provide personalized transition analysis for hypothetical scenarios and recommendations to clients on security transfers for charitable intentions
- Monitor and update portfolio assignment for Sr. Investment Managers
Qualifications
Experience/Education
- College degree or emphasis in Engineering/Computer Science/ Finance/Accounting/Economics subjects strongly preferred
- Existing or progress toward CFP/CFA Credential or Graduate studies (MBA, MSF etc)
- Three to five years investment experience in research, portfolio management, trading or technology development in these fields
Skills and Knowledge
- Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau
- Familiarity with technical and programming skills which could include R, Python, Java and SQL
- Ability to work effectively on a collaborative team with a strong spirit of innovation, maintaining comfort in undefined environments
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, a creative approach to problem solving, and the ability to multi-task
- Understanding of portfolio theory and quantitative portfolio construction techniques in a taxable environment

Location: Boston, MA
The base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $175,000 per year.Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
