Senior Data Engineer - Oracle DBA - OCI
The Role
The Institutional Brokerage Database Services Center of Excellence (COE) requires a highly competent and highly motivated Senior Database Engineer with strong technical skills to support challenging mission critical database platforms. This position would provide an excellent opportunity to work on leading database technologies like Oracle, Postgres, Distributed SQL, NoSQL, Snowflake etc. It is a great place to experience and learn end-to-end DBA service capabilities. This role requires a service-oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned and is an enormous opportunity to gain experience with modern technologies like AI/ML. In this role, you will:
- Establish database standards for operations, upgrades, migrations and onboarding new applications and/or clients.
- Diagnose problem areas and develop solutions and/or workarounds by writing clear, concise, well-coordinated technical documentation to maintain standards and procedures.
- Monitor, configure, and maintain database platforms to ensure optimal performance, capacity planning, system health, and availability, proactively responding to alerts and rapidly diagnosing and resolving performance or stability issues.
- Support existing infrastructure, integrate new features, and implement the data architecture of the organization.
- Develop methods to seamlessly integrate products together, including customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
- Collaborate with project managers, systems analysts, engineers, application teams, customers, and enterprise partners—including Systems Administration, Cyber Security, and Capacity Planning—to align database solutions with technical, operational, and business requirements.
- Perform application database administration (Oracle/Postgres) across all phases of the SDLC, including SQL code review, performance analysis and query tuning, logical and physical data modeling, database application design, and development support.
- Participate in proof-of-concept (POCs) efforts to evaluate and enable new technology solutions.
- Design and implement highly resilient and performing Oracle database platforms, using distributed database technologies.
- Participate in 24X7 on call rotation schedule for various production support, database maintenance, housekeeping and installations.
- Establish Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to deploy code and services to Amazon Web Services (AWS) using Cloud based data platforms.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
- 5+ years of experience in Oracle Database technologies with very proven understanding of end-to-end database tech-stack including Exadata and provide technical leadership for strategic projects.
- 3+ years of Cloud experience, AWS is preferred.
- 5+ experience in Oracle Database Administration / Performance Engineering / Replication Engineering across multiple platforms -- Linux and Engineered systems.
- 1+ experience in DB performance for other database platforms (Postgres, CockroachDB, Snowflake, Cassandra, MS SQL Server, etc.) across multiple platforms -- Linux and Engineered systems.
- 5+ years of experience in Distributed replication technologies (Oracle Goldengate, EDB Replication, etc.) preferred.
- Experience with cloud databases platforms (AWS/Azure/Oracle OCI certification is helpful), on both Linux and Windows environments.
- Possess domain expertise in Oracle internals, Optimizer, Statistics management, Partition management, Physical implementation and Workload management for highly scalable and resilient database platforms.
- Possess sophisticated skills in Query Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid control (OEM 12c), Linux shell scripting, and writing database monitoring jobs in PL/SQL.
- A good understanding of Oracle RAC related performance challenges
- Ability to develop and drive database performance standards, standard methodologies and initiatives. Perform applications database administration (Oracle/Postgres) services including SQL code review, performance analysis, query tuning, database application design, physical data modeling, development support & Engineering.

The Fidelity Institutional Technology, Database Center of Excellence (COE), provides business facing database solutions, encompassing the application/business aspects of databases, including database design, solution design, database engineering, application-data-database integration, data replication, performance consulting, deployment, and support, using world-class methodologies & technologies. This team provides end to end DBA services for distributed database technologies like Oracle, Postgres, NoSQL, Snowflake, SQL server, etc.
