The Role

The Director, Engineering – Leader within Corporate Services Technology, supporting Legal Strategy and Shared Services (LS3), is a senior engineering leader accountable for the technical direction, delivery, and operational excellence of Legal technology platforms. This role directly manages software engineers and works closely with engineering teams to design, build, integrate, and operate secure, scalable solutions. The role partners with Legal leadership, architects, and vendors, and is grounded in software engineering excellence, modern architecture, and reliable execution supporting discovery, litigation support, legal operations, and shared services.

The Expertise You Have

  • Deep software engineering leadership experience delivering enterprise platforms in regulated environments.

  • Experience directly managing engineers responsible for full lifecycle delivery, including design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.

  • Strong engineering background across full-stack development, including modern front-end frameworks (e.g., Angular), back-end services (Java, APIs, microservices), and relational databases such as Oracle.

  • Demonstrated experience with cloud-native architectures, including application deployment and operations on AWS, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized environments.

  • Experience managing vendor and platform partnerships, aligning roadmaps, integrations using APIs, event-driven, and secure integration patterns, and operational expectations to Legal priorities

  • Strong understanding of secure engineering practices, data governance, records retention, and compliance controls required for Legal and regulatory systems.

  • Experience building or operating systems supporting high-risk domains such as eDiscovery, legal holds, matter management, eBilling, document management, or regulatory workflows.

  • Proven partnership experience with Legal, Risk, Compliance, and Corporate Services stakeholders, framing complex technical topics as decisions, risks, and options, while maintaining strong engineering standards.

  • Hands-on engineering leadership capability, including reviewing designs, guiding implementation approaches, and coaching engineers on code quality, architecture, and operational readiness.

  • Ability to design and evolve scalable, maintainable systems while balancing delivery commitments and technical debt.

  • Strong execution leadership skills, including sprint planning, driving cross-team alignment on dependencies, risks, and release readiness, and maintaining predictable delivery across multiple initiatives

  • Comfort operating across the full software development lifecycle, from early requirements through post-release support and incident management.

  • Ability to partner effectively with architects, platform teams, and security partners to align solutions with enterprise standards.

  • Clear and confident communication skills to explain complex technical topics to Legal partners and senior leaders.

  • Change leadership mindset that promotes adoption of modern engineering practices, automation, and continuous improvement.
