The opportunity
The AVP, Product Management plays a key leadership role for John Hancock’s life insurance business. This person will lead a team of product managers, specialists and actuaries to generate ideas for product actions, obtain leadership buy-in on recommendations, and drive the development of new insurance products that supported the strategic business objections.
This role is within John Hancock’s Product Development organization, which has a well earned reputation for developing innovative life insurance products that benefit customers and shareholders, all while maintaining the confidence of the company’s sophisticated network of independent producers and distribution partners.
This person will:
Lead and mentor a team of Product Managers to conceptualize, evaluate, and develop new products and ongoing product enhancements.
Generate innovative ideas for new insurance products and product enhancements, aligning with market demands and strategic objectives.
Provide recommendations to senior leadership for product actions, through John Hancock’s well established product development process
Foster a collaborative working relationship with the Pricing team, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment between product development and actuarial pricing efforts.
Act as a trusted partner throughout the business – especially with Market Solutions, Strategy, Finance, Marketing and Distribution – on major strategic initiatives that involve product actions.
Work closely with internal and external distribution partners to gather insights, address market needs, and optimize product offerings to maximize market penetration and sales, while ensuring all products meet specified financial targets.
Provide strategic input into product’s annual planning process, turning insights about our portfolio and the market into action.

What we are looking for
10+ years of proven leadership experience in life insurance product management or similar role. Knowledge of the US life insurance market required.
In-depth knowledge of insurance product development process, regulatory and economic environment, and the ability to drive the product lifecycle from ideation to launch and market acceptance.
Strong understanding of market dynamics, customer needs, and competitive landscape within the life insurance market and broader financial services industry. Ability to put insights into action.
Experience collaborating with actuarial teams and deep understanding of pricing dynamics within life insurance products.
Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate market opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.
Effective prioritization and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to build and lead teams, and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Salary & Benefits
The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Boston, MassachusettsSalary range is expected to be between
$148,400.00 USD - $275,500.00 USDIf you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact recruitment@manulife.com for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
