Job Description

The opportunity

The Head of Plan Compliance and Consulting will provide strategic vision, direction and overall accountability for establishing John Hancock Retirement as the partner of choice for TPAs in the U.S. and delivering on our in house bundled service capabilities including Plan Design, ERISA Consulting, and Defined Benefit Actuarial Services. These offers are required to be successful in the US Retirement target markets. You will demonstrate collaborative influence with key internal partners (operations, technology, product, sales, service, and others) to enable an integrated, differentiated offer in the marketplace.

This role will be responsible for defining a strategic plan that is aligned with the overall US Retirement strategy and then implementing the appropriate operating model, service model, offers and services by collaborating with our TPA partners and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Individual Accountabilities:

  • 20%: Developing, communicating and implementing the business strategic vision, plan, operating model and success criteria for function.

  • 20%: Oversight of overall TPA Channel Management, including firm segmentation, strategic relationship management, value add programs.

  • 20%: Build a scalable consulting and 3rd party model that places Plan Sponsors at center, maintains Advisor Awareness/alignment, and delivers a predictable and consistent audience experience regardless of method of delivery.

  • 10%: Provide leadership to retirement professionals in Plan Compliance and Consulting function and optimize resources, budget and innovations to drive continuous improvement and efficacy.

  • 5%: Develop and maintain an external presence as a leader with vision by attending, presenting and delivering thought leadership insights related to Plan Compliance and Consulting.

Key Shared Accountabilities:

  • 15%: As part of US Retirement leadership team, participate and lead to achieve shared/mutual business goals.

  • 10%: Attract, develop, promote and retain top, diverse talent in US Retirement and more broadly, Manulife organization

The Head of Plan Compliance and Consulting will advance our strategic pillar of being the ‘Partner of Choice’ by leading a team of retirement industry professionals to provide retirement plan compliance and consulting services to John Hancock Retirement clients, Financial Advisors and Third-Party Administrators (TPA) partners.

What we are looking for

  • 20 years+ experience in Retirement industry with expertise in plan rules, TPA and overall retirement ecosystem.

  • 10 years+ experience in people leadership with proven ability to attract, develop, promote and retain top, diverse talent.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Public speaking and keynote presentation experience.

Salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
