The opportunity

The Senior Manager, Risk Oversight is responsible for risk oversight of our US Insurance business with a focus on operational risk management. This role will report to our Chief Risk Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, John Hancock.

Responsibilities

• Provide second line of defense oversight of Risk, Control Self Assessments, Change Initiatives, Scenario Analysis, and other operational risk programs as needed by probing, challenging and assessing risk by applying risk expertise, strong relationship management and critical thinking skills.

• Make recommendations for control and process improvements, helping the business to create action plans for identified gaps.

• Support a variety of risk management activities on an as-needed basis including assessment of risk culture.

• Take actions to foster a strong risk-awareness culture, including preparation and presentation of employee education programs.

• Ensure alignment with Manulife Financial group policies and best practices, escalating risk concerns as required.

• Support the ongoing collaboration of Risk Management with other oversight and assurance functions (e.g. Internal Audit, Compliance, Legal, Information Security etc.). Build and maintain a strong network of partners in Functional areas.

• Function in an advisory capacity to provide support to leadership and staff to improve risk assessment skills, raise enterprise risk awareness and promote a healthy risk culture.

• Documentation of oversight performed to ensure adherence to the enterprise risk management tools and processes.

What we are looking for

• Bachelors degree

• 5+ years of experience working in risk management, insurance operations, oversight, audit, or compliance is preferred

• Successful candidate must be a strong champion of the Operational Risk Framework

• Strong relationship building skills and will be required to form and cultivate a strong working relationship with many resources across the Company

• Experience with or understanding of operational procedures at financial institution (preferably insurance).

• Working knowledge of enterprise and operational risk management frameworks and processes is a plus.

• Experience in designing, implementing, and validating the effectiveness of operational controls is strongly valued.

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,325.00 USD - $155,385.00 USD
