The Opportunity

This role involves managing a dynamic portfolio of nonprofit partnerships, monitoring social and environmental trends, benchmarking against industry leaders, and overseeing transparent budget and grantmaking processes. The successful candidate will serve as a public ambassador for the company’s impact initiatives, engage colleagues, collaborate cross-functionally to amplify stories and enhance brand reputation, and represent the organization in external forums. Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, and communication skills are essential, with experience in financial services and familiarity with ESG reporting considered strong assets. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

  • Architect and lead a bold, data-informed U.S. community investment strategy that delivers measurable outcomes and aligns with business goals.
  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of nonprofit partnerships, ensuring strategic alignment, mutual value creation, and long-term impact.
  • Monitor social, economic, and environmental trends to evolve strategy and maintain relevance.
  • Benchmark against industry leaders to ensure innovation and excellence in community investment.
  • Oversee budget planning, grantmaking, and reporting processes to ensure transparency and accountability.

Stakeholder Engagement & Thought Leadership

  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Manulife | John Hancock’s community investment efforts through public speaking, media engagement, and industry forums.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Communications, Marketing, and HR teams to amplify impact stories and elevate brand reputation.
  • Represent the company in external associations, coalitions, and working groups, bringing back insights and best practices.

Qualifications & Leadership Attributes

  • Graduate degree in Public Policy, Social Impact, Business, or a related field —OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Progressive leadership experience in community investment, CSR, social impact strategy, or related fields such as sustainability, strategic communications, and marketing.
  • Proven success in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical acumen, and program management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate social impact with business and sustainability strategies.
  • Exceptional communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Experience in financial services, insurance, or asset management is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with impact measurement frameworks and ESG reporting standards is an asset.

Salary range is expected to be between

$120,750.00 USD - $217,350.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
