Are you looking for opportunities to grow and succeed? An exciting opportunity is available to play a key role in supporting our financial reporting under IFRS17 and develop core actuarial valuation skills. Reporting to the US IFRS Actuary, this Senior Actuarial Associate role will be involved in calculating and analyzing reserves and capitals, driver of earnings, policyholder experiences, as well as communicating technical concepts to a wide audience including senior management. The experience this role offers would give a deeper understanding of some of Manulife’s more sophisticated Life products, and build working relationships with a large group of seasoned actuarial and accounting professionals and other various stakeholders in a challenging yet flexible and supportive environment.

Position Responsibilities

Reporting

  • Play a central role in quarter-end earnings and reserves.

  • Maintain the current process of a robust IFRS17 Drivers of Earnings, Reserve Movement Analysis and Risk Integrity, and enhance efficiency where applicable.

  • Support the valuation reviews and controls of assumptions as part of the annual and off-cycle process.

  • Work closely with Line Actuaries in reviewing, enhancing, and streamlining valuation methodology and processes while also ensuring that valuation is being performed in compliance with applicable internal guidelines and actuarial standards.

  • Assist in required capital analysis and support reporting under LICAT

  • Participate to various reporting deliverables to Group Functions and other stakeholders (e.g. Appointed Actuary's Report, Basis Change, Reserve Sensitivities etc.)

  • Collaborate with primary stakeholder teams such as Liability Modeling Team, Accounting, IT, Inforce Management, Pricing, Group, Senior Management, Risk Management.

Projects

  • Assist with potential in-force optimization projects.

  • Assist with ad hoc management requests.

  • Continuously improving and refining valuation processes through streamlining spreadsheets, simplifying calculations and automating deliverables (e.g. developing new tools with Python, Power BI, SQL or Qlikview queries)

Required Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proactive, self-directed, and able to work independently.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate technical concepts to a wide audience.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from various areas.

  • Adaptability and willingness to be flexible in a relatively new and ever-changing IFRS17 environment.

  • Actively working towards an FSA/FCIA designation.

  • 3+ years of experience working within an Actuarial/Finance area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Life UL products and Financial Reporting is an asset

  • Strong Excel skills, with exposure to AXIS preferred.

Salary range is expected to be between

$93,125.00 CAD - $143,125.00 CAD
