The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

The US Retail Markets Data Science team brings together a diverse range of talent to predict future risk and what our customers will need to recover. Our data engineers write code that turns trillions of bits of information into structured data—data that our hundred-plus Data Scientists analyze with cutting-edge modeling techniques to unlock insights. From there, our tools and deployment teams ensure this data can be practically applied to business problems across US Retail Markets. We are where it all comes together. We design, build & maintain the tooling to ensure that these insights are actively applied to solve critical business problems facing our business.

Through management of a team of analysts, your mandate will be to provide essential tooling primarily for the Property & Specialty Product Delivery team enabling batch-rating, calibration for new product launches, and rate revisions on existing products. Collaboration with various partners, including Product Delivery, Rate & Profit, MDS, and the Data Office is key in planning and prioritizing tool development and data readiness activities to support Product Delivery. You will work alongside two counterparts managing teams supporting PL Auto and BL all lines. Strong collaboration within the team and with partner teams is crucial to ensuring seamless execution, on-time product launches, and revisions. In this role you will lead high complexity and long-term projects, and create new and innovative capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical proficiency in any of the following: SAS, SQL, VBA, python, R languages.
  • Knowledge of PL Property line of business is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Liberty's data sources, warehouses and ETL processes.
  • Intermediate level experience with BI tools such as PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Must have exceptional planning, decision-making, communication, and project management skills.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field. Masters, PhD, or equivalent helpful given quantitative work they are leading.
  • Minimum of 7, typically 10 years or more relevant work experience.
  • Expert skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, Emblem).
  • Must have exceptional planning, analytical, decision-making, communication, and project management skills.
  • Expert knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans), predictive modeling, and code (e.g., SQL).
  • Significant understanding of competitors' pricing strategies and relationship to our own.
  • Industry knowledge developed from internal meetings, news alerts, project-specific work, and proactive research into competitor strategies.
