The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

As the Enterprise Legal Solutions leader, you will be part of the Enterprise Legal Services leadership team, leading the team’s strategic goals of enhancing client service, efficiency, and profitability through the adoption of new technology, processes, and best practices. Managing a team of legal practitioners, you will work closely with legal teams across practice groups to understand their needs, challenges, and opportunities, and propose and implement shared-services solutions for high-volume legal work that align with the company's and the Legal Department’s vision and values.

The Enterprise Legal Solutions leader will support our practice groups with innovative technological solutions, process improvements, and knowledge management in alignment with overall enterprise and legal strategy. The Enterprise Legal Solutions leader will be responsible for connecting outputs across various legal practice areas including collecting, organizing, curating, expanding, and maintaining core content, effectively sharing knowledge across the group, and identifying and solutioning for high-volume legal work executed within Enterprise Legal Solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage legal shared services function, ensuring effective, efficient, high-quality execution of high-volume legal work by promoting a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with and support the team to build and foster working relationships with business partners across Legal Department teams, vendors, industry peers, legal technology providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Legal Department’s shared services strategy, roadmap, and portfolio by assessing practice groups needs, and defining and implementing plans to address them.
  • Collaborate across Legal Department teams to assess workflows and identify use cases for legal technology tools and process improvements for high-volume legal work, assess the feasibility, impact, and ROI of potential solutions, and oversee the design, development, and implementation of tools and processes to perform the work, including facilitating the design and administration of pilots or proofs of concept (including defining objectives, scope, timeline, budget, metrics, and success criteria, and managing stakeholders, risks, and issues), while escalating issues and legal and execution risks appropriately. Keep abreast of new technology, trends, and best practices in the legal industry and beyond, and sharing insights and recommendations with the enterprise legal team and the department.
  • Attentively apply a risk management perspective to organizational challenges providing creative and insightful solutions to critical people issues while ensuring the organization's values are reflected in people outcomes.
  • Promote and encourage use of the company’s knowledge management system within the practice area, and be responsible for the maintenance and currency of content within the system.
  • Initiate and coordinate legal knowledge projects, technologies, and systems in the assigned practice area.
  • Identify practice-related training needs and coordinate with practitioners and Talent Development to organize, design and deliver relevant training. Provide regular training on utilization of knowledge resources, process improvement, and innovative technology solutions to Enterprise Legal Solutions practitioners.
  • Coordinate with peers in other practice areas to exchange best practices in utilization of knowledge resources, incorporation of process improvements, and implementation of technology solutions.

Qualifications

  • Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required. Generally, requires at least fifteen years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Adept at strategic thinking, innovation, and problem-solving to address complex business and legal operational challenges to deliver new approaches to executing work, along with a keen eye for process improvement, resource optimization, and application of cutting-edge tools and technology.
  • Proven experience leading legal operations in alignment with business objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships across all levels of the organization, including senior and executive levels, with a proven ability to manage a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to influence positive outcomes as normally acquired through previous leadership experience.
  • Excellent analytic, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and make sound, risk-aware decisions quickly.
  • Expert knowledge of the workflows and the core needs of legal practitioners.
  • Proficiency with legal innovation and legal technology ecosystem and learning and adapting to new technologies.
  • Proven experience leading change management, project management and process improvement.
