The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description
Liberty Mutual’s Global Legal & Compliance Department, Legal Strategic Services (LSS) has an exciting opportunity available for a highly motivated and qualified Attorney to work in our Legal Client Services Group. The successful candidate will work closely with our Strategic Business Units, including Claims and Service/Distribution, as well as our large Liberty customers to provide advice regarding the delivery of legal services, litigation management, legal spend, and firm management, The attorney will carry out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and recommendations on all aspects of litigation management to the company, including actionable strategies to enhance litigated case outcomes and cost control and oversight, analysis and management of law firms to drive innovative solutions.
- Consult with Liberty Service & Distribution, Liberty insureds/Customers, Claims, and Underwriting across Global Risk Solutions (GRS) to provide legal guidance on litigation management issues, analysis of portfolio performance metrics, negotiation of complex disputes and formulating strategy.
- Supporting GRS in the advancement of Liberty’s legal services to external Fortune 100/500 prospects and customers through frequent customer engagement, presentations and interaction. This position will interact directly and indirectly with Liberty and Helmsman's largest customers.
- Regular use of metrics and legal analytics to help advise strategy, drive savings and opportunities on legal spend and outcomes.
- Address complex and routine legal issues working with Global Legal & Compliance Department practice areas to manage and oversee external firm panels, engage in alternative fee arrangements and identify novel opportunities to deliver legal services.
- This position provides frequent opportunities to interface with Liberty employees and managers at various levels across the Liberty organization. The successful candidate must possess high standards of legal and business ethics, litigation experience, and professional responsibility.
- Participate in multiple LSS and Global Legal Department expense management initiatives.
- Solid communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of defense and insurance litigation.
- Maintain current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
- Generally, requires at least eight years’ experience as a practicing attorney experienced in litigation, including trials.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; direct client exposure required.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
- Strong understanding of business metrics and analytics.
- Comprehensive understanding of insurance Claims and operations, as well as Underwriting principles.
