Description
This is an on-site position at Liberty Mutual's corporate headquarters in Boston MA.

We’re looking for a Workplace Operations Manager II (Facilities/Engineering) in Boston to oversee essential building systems, own preventive maintenance and capital projects, and deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations—with genuine autonomy, visibility, and the chance to make a real impact.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, controls) to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.
- Maintain and optimize preventive maintenance strategies in the CMMS; create PMs, ensure data integrity, and drive PM compliance.
- Support capital and lifecycle projects: define scope, prepare cost and schedule estimates, select and manage vendors, and deliver to budget and schedule.
- Manage contractors and in-house technicians: set SLAs, negotiate contracts, approve invoices, conduct performance reviews, and enforce safety requirements.
- Ensure regulatory and code compliance (NFPA, NEC, OSHA, ADA, environmental); coordinate inspections and permits.
- Drive energy and sustainability initiatives
- Create, manage, and adhere to operating and project budgets; track expense management and vendor spend.
- Deliver recurring metrics and reports on department KPIs and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Serve as primary point of contact for facilities-related incidents and coordinate timely resolution for building occupants.
- Maintain accurate documentation (as-builts, O&M manuals, warranties, vendor contracts).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field, or equivalent experience (5–7+ years facilities/engineering experience required).
- 3+ years supervisory/managerial experience in facility operations or building engineering.
- Experience using and administering a CMMS (e.g., IBM Maximo, Angus, AwareManager) and implementing PM programs.
- Proven vendor/contract management and budget ownership experience.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, OSHA).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to be onsite during business hours and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Preferred qualifications
- Certifications: CFM, CEM, PE (mechanical/electrical), EPA Universal, or OSHA 30.
- Experience with building automation systems (BACnet, Metasys, Johnson Controls) and energy management platforms.
- Experience with LEAN/process improvement methodologies and KPI development.
- Prior experience supporting office/real estate portfolios or multi-tenant buildings.
Physical requirements & work environment
- Ability to access mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces; lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- May require occasional weekend or after-hours work for projects or emergency response.
- Occasional local travel.
