The Position:
As Vice President, you will lead LMI’s structuring of investments and own the allocation and evaluation of investments for fit within an insurance balance sheet. In this role, you will be the go-to partner for structuring and evaluating capital-efficient investments for Liberty’s insurance entities. You will be designing structures, interpreting regulatory changes, and building tools that improve portfolio decisions. This role offers significant visibility with senior leaders and a unique opportunity to shape investment strategy at enterprise scale and is critical for LMI’s success given today’s rapidly changing insurance regulatory and financial structuring landscape.
Responsibilities:
- Investment Structure Ownership:
- Develop and execute capital-efficient investment structures that optimize regulatory, solvency, and rating agency treatment.
- Partner with Investment, Risk, Operations, Compliance, Legal and Financial Reporting teams to embed insurance and regulatory considerations into new products, asset classes, and portfolio strategies. Lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Insurance Regulatory and Industry Insights:
- Monitor U.S. insurance regulatory developments, rating agency criteria, and industry trends; translate them into actionable recommendations for portfolio design, legal entity strategy, and driving insights.
- Evaluate and adapt investment structures to maintain long-term portfolio viability within regulatory and solvency constraints.
- Support GSCA initiatives with research and analytical depth related to regulatory or market shifts.
- Industry Surveillance:
- Lead ongoing surveillance of peer insurers’ investment strategies and quarterly activity, producing executive-ready strategic competitive intelligence for the CIO, GSCA, and Liberty Group Finance, as an input into capital allocation and investment risk posture.
- AI, Automation, and Tool-Building:
- Direct the development of AI-driven tools leveraging LLMs, APIs, and modern data platforms to scale insight generation, judgment leverage, scenario analysis, and regulatory surveillance, and further expand efficiency.
Qualifications
- Domain & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or related field; advanced degree a plus
- 10–15 years of experience in investments, insurance, banking, consulting, or related fields, with exposure to regulated financial institutions.
- Expertise in interpreting and applying financial regulation and rating agency frameworks for financial institutions; insurance-specific experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of asset allocation, capital markets, and both traditional and alternative asset classes.
- Structuring & Analytical Skills
- Experience designing, using, and/or implementing financial structures such as CLOs, CFOs, and rated feeder notes a strong plus.
- Exceptional analytical skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capability.
- Technology & Tools
- Familiarity with LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT), Python, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with modern data architectures (e.g., Snowflake). Direct experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Bloomberg, BlackRock Aladdin, Power BI, VBA or other financial and analytical tools is a plus.
- Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate complex topics clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Outstanding business acumen, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects under tight timelines.
- Superior communication and listening skills; able to translate complex issues into clear, actionable narratives to influence and persuade a broad range of partners.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
