The Reinsurance Operations Team provides accurate and insightful financial, analytical and claims information. We support the internal and external core reinsurance programs by providing a foundation to establish and enhance strategic product offerings through traditional and alternative reinsurance solutions for our global customers. Additionally, the Reinsurance Team safeguards company assets through proactive identification and management of reinsurance recoverables, the second largest Liberty Mutual asset. This work is done in pockets of the organization globally, but most of it sits with Reinsurance Operations.

The Business Lead serves as the representative of the business on reinsurance related technology initiatives, including a new large complex multi-faceted, multi-year strategic program to transform post placement ceded reinsurance operations globally, production support, and other initiatives. As representative of the business, defines and drives agreement on target-state processes, and ensures solutions align with operational needs and deliver the intended value.

Drives and/or supports process improvement and other related projects, as well as key deliverables that go across many teams, such as Schedule F. Fosters the development of the team by setting objectives that challenge them while providing ongoing coaching.

Job Responsibilities - Strategic Initiative Support

  • Develops competent understanding of all the current state post placement reinsurance processes globally. This should encompass who, what, when, where, and how with appropriate differentiation for what is handled differently depending on a variety of factors, such as assumed vs ceded, affiliated vs unaffiliated, pro rata vs xol, legal entity, segment, and direct underwriting / claims platform.
  • Leverages understanding of the needs of the business to articulate business requirements, including required functionality and target state business processes.
  • Able to translate business requirements into business value and articulate in a way to get that value across to the broader stakeholder community, including the various impacted business areas, project team, and senior leadership.
  • Knows what does / does not drive the expected business value to enable effective trade off conversations – knows “what hills to die on” for the business.
  • Ensures business value will still be realized even as the business continues to evolve.
  • Leverages understanding of how the business gets the work done to manage how they are engaged in initiative related discussions.
  • Involves the right people from the business in conversations when needed, balancing the need for their knowledge and engagement with the need to protect their capacity.
  • Drives consensus and buy in across business stakeholders – keeps key business leaders involved in critical decisions and apprised of progress – able to “make it real” by translating technology or project lingo into what it means for the applicable stakeholders.
  • Ensures technology being delivered will meet the needs of the business via adequate testing throughout the project(s).
  • Mitigate risk of rework by thoughtfully developing and executing on testing throughout the project to enable the identification of most issues before certain waves of the project move into the full UAT stages.
  • Manage implementation risk by ensuring UAT is thorough, effective, efficient, executed on well, and includes all the appropriate stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Effectively serve as key point of contact for IT squads and related product owners that support broader reinsurance team. Ensure business needs are being appropriately contemplated in prioritization, the right business resources are being engaged in discussions, tasks are being completed in accordance with expectations, and issues or concerns are escalated to the right folks.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality and timeliness for non-technology related responsibilities, such as Schedule F related deliverables, special projects, and short-term staff augmentation assignments.
  • Delivers results while building the team`s capabilities by setting challenging objectives and coaching the team in meeting them.
  • Has the vision to create employee development plans that build strengths needed for the current operation and for the future.
  • Takes action to attract, engage and advance the careers of people from all backgrounds and experiences.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in accounting, finance, business or equivalent required
  • Additionally, requires minimum of 10 years of management responsibility
  • Strong understanding of reinsurance and post placement reinsurance operations is required; possesses an advanced understanding of reinsurance principles.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in or with post placement reinsurance areas; preferably with experience with both financial and operational deliverables.

  • Prior experience with large reinsurance related technology initiatives is strongly preferred.

  • Liberty specific knowledge and experience is preferred.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to execute thoroughly in a fast-paced work environment, adapting quickly to changing conditions to achieve results.

  • Facilitates cross-functional collaboration and communicates effectively to a wide variety of audiences at all levels of the organization.

  • Comfortable leading meetings and making presentations to increasingly large audiences.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
