Description

Are you passionate about the power of data and how technology can unlock the analytical powers to help USRM achieve its strategic goals? If so the DAE, Data Analytics and Engineering team is looking for a motivated team player to support the USRM Business Delivery Solutions Engineering (BDSE) squads as they deliver cutting edge business data solutions. In addition, you will be part of the overall USRM DAE data modernization efforts and contribute to how we work in cloud-based architecture.

As part of this fast-paced team you will help influence the ongoing evolution of our data strategy and roadmap delivering key data solutions in direct alignment with business strategies. The candidate will be part of a talented and empowered agile portfolio working to build the next generation of Distribution and Marketing data solutions. As a Solutions Engineer you will partner with the Data Solutions and Design (DS&D) and Architecture teams with a primary focus on speed to market business data delivery solutions. As a thought leader you will be aligned across multiple development squads focusing on defining strategy and future architecture roadmap, driving direction and modernization efforts in legacy systems, and helping to develop and grow our data talent within the USRM DAE organization.

**This is a hybrid role requiring two days in the office a week in one of the following locations: Boston, Portsmouth, Columbus, Plano, or Indianapolis**

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide USRM Data Domain knowledge across the Business Delivery Solutions Engineering organization.
  • Provide SME expertise as applicable to increase understanding of historical data content, application code, and/or business processes within the squads.
  • Mentor and coach team members as a servant leader across a distributed multi-team organization.
  • Provide guidance to delivery squads for training and other learning opportunities.
  • Define data sourcing and solutioning recommendations to ensure proposed epics/features are actionable as squads receive them.
  • Align business asks from Data Office and other business stakeholders to the future state architecture principles and roadmap.
  • Make the data strategy real for teams by applying the appropriate tools and patterns to the individual use cases.
  • Orchestrate data solutions that are scalable and reusable minimizing development costs across business domains.
  • Continually contribute to the evolution of our modern data architecture roadmap and strategy based on new and emerging technology needs.
  • Establish, share and align best practices emerging across squads throughout the BDSE organization.
  • In an Agile environment, work closely with development squads, Data Architecture team, management, stakeholders and Product Owners to align requirements/strategy to technical capabilities, set technical direction and evangelize Gen AI opportunities across the data engineering teams.
  • Partner with the Data Office to translate business requirements into LLM/Generative AI solution designs. Recommend appropriate technical approaches (model strategy, retrieval, inference, data pipelines, security controls), produce secure and scalable design artifacts, and delivery reviews with engineering teams through implementation and rollout.
  • Partner with application/data architects as well as other application teams to implement solutions and ensure effective integration with upstream source systems.
  • Reviews and ensures architectural implementations are consistent, maintainable, flexible and cost effective.
  • Defines technical acceptance criteria for deliverables.
  • Provides information management guidelines, principles, and practices to ensure governance standards and customer reportable data needs are met.
  • Develops and manages effective working relationships with other departments, groups, peers.
  • Make recommendations to improve process efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate strong technical architecture and leadership skills with ability to handle multiple activities in a dynamic and energizing environment.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on data design and development experience at least 3 of which should be in a technical leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience defining, architecture roadmaps, business cases and implementations for data solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, modern Cloud / Hybrid data architecture concepts.
  • In-depth knowledge of data concepts, strategies and methodologies. In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles
  • Knowledge of a variety of data platforms: relational data, XML, Data Lakes, unstructured data solutions.
  • Well versed in data governance, information management frameworks; Understanding of Data management, relational databases and reference data management would be essential.
  • Understanding of data modeling techniques; ability to lead and contribute to incremental and iterative modern data architecture.
  • Perform data research / profiling and apply recommendations to solution design.
  • Ability to communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-makers
  • Ability to balance support of legacy solutions with delivery of new business capabilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication and collaboration skills with track record of taking solution ownership and accountability.
  • Experience with modern engineering practices, cloud computing (AWS), Gen AI and development using micro services architecture is a strong plus.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Lean Startup, XP) and cross-functional teams (Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, Designers, Business Analysts)
  • Ability to adhere to guidelines and standards while innovating and contributing to evolution of those standards.
  • Highly developed negotiation, consensus building & influencing skills, facilitation and the adaptability to respond to change quickly
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-makers with a calm, measured style

Highly competitive applicants will have the following:

  • Experience and expert knowledge of Snowflake, Informatica IDMC, AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience defining data architecture, roadmaps and strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of personal insurance business operations, preferably in the Distribution and Marketing space.
  • Guidewire experience is a plus.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
