- Represents business partners in complex legal and business transactions, generally with minimal supervision, where the facts, law or precedents involved are subject to differing interpretations or are in dispute.
- Reviews, drafts, analyzes, interprets, negotiates and advises on various forms of reinsurance agreements involving Liberty’s U.S. and non-U.S. companies including ceded and assumed reinsurance contracts (treaty and facultative), commutations, adverse development covers, and related documentation, such as contract amendments and reinsurance collateral arrangements.
- Participates in the reinsurance aspects of mergers and acquisitions including due diligence and appropriate structuring, document preparation, review, and negotiation as necessary.
- Assists with, and oversees, reinsurance disputes, arbitrations and audits, including management of outside counsel.
- Develops and maintains reinsurance resources, training programs and self-help tools, including playbooks, templates and regulatory summaries.
Qualifications
- Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction within the United States.
- Generally requires at least three years' experience as a practicing attorney.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, ability to manage multiple priorities, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
- Experience with assumed or ceded reinsurance and insurance transactions and coverage, including insurance coverage litigation or arbitrations, opinions or advice, is preferred but not mandatory for a candidate who demonstrates a keen interest in reinsurance matters.
Employees may apply for a new role after completing 12 months of employment in their current position.
