Description

We are seeking a Director, Auto Product Design to lead a team responsible for researching, designing, and enhancing auto insurance coverages and product features. This role manages a team of analysts focused on developing insights and supporting the design of auto product enhancements.

The manager will oversee a portion of the auto product design portfolio and help translate market insights, analytics, and customer needs into product design recommendations. This role partners closely with Data Science, Risk Analytics, Underwriting, Technology, Distribution, Claims and Service teams to support the development and implementation of new product capabilities and consider end-to-end product experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team responsible for product analytics, competitive intelligence, and performance monitoring for personal auto coverages and features.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance existing coverages and develop new product features based on market trends, customer insights, and performance results.
  • Support the design of product offerings, including defining coverage structures and feature concepts and guiding the team to develop requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across USRM to evaluate and implement product enhancements.
  • Manage and develop a team of analysts and product specialists, ensuring strong analytical rigor and product insight.

We are looking for a candidate who is:

  • 5+ years of experience in personal lines insurance, preferably auto product management, product development, or strategy.
  • Knowledge of auto insurance product pricing and coverages
  • Strong analytical background with experience using data and market insights to inform product decisions.
  • Experience collaborating with technology teams to develop business requirements for new capabilities or products.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring analysts
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Master's degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field. Masters, PhD, or equivalent helpful given quantitative work they are leading.
  • Minimum of 7, typically 10 years or more relevant work experience.
  • Expert skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, Emblem).
  • Must have exceptional planning, analytical, decision-making, communication, and project management skills.
  • Expert knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans), predictive modeling, and code (e.g., SQL).
  • Significant understanding of competitors' pricing strategies and relationship to our own.
  • Industry knowledge developed from internal meetings, news alerts, project-specific work, and proactive research into competitor strategies.
