Why this role is exciting
Join a high-impact, fast-moving team at the center of Liberty Mutual’s growth strategy. As a Senior Project Manager on the Talent M&A team, you will lead the people side of acquisitions, divestitures, and integrations—helping the business achieve strategic objectives while protecting and empowering employees through change. This is a highly visible role where you’ll partner closely with senior leaders and cross-functional experts, and shape how talent is onboarded and integrated at scale across the enterprise.
About the team
Talent M&A is a strategic, deal-focused group that partners with business leaders, Legal, Finance, Tax, Compensation, and other corporate functions to drive all PP&B aspects of M&A activity. We enable successful transactions by delivering thoughtful people strategies, pragmatic solutions, and strong employee experiences during moments of change.
Role overview
As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead complex, end-to-end Talent transaction workstreams across the full M&A lifecycle. You’ll coordinate internal and external advisors, lead diligence and execution activities, present to executive stakeholders, and serve as the Talent M&A point of contact on high-visibility deals. This role requires
strong project leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to influence without direct authority.
What success looks like
- Seamlessly manage multiple concurrent M&A transactions end-to-end, delivering Talent milestones on schedule with clear, auditable documentation
- Surface and quantify Talent risks early to inform deal structure and mitigation strategies
- Drive stakeholder alignment and approvals across Legal, Finance, Compensation, and business leaders, with clear executive updates
- Protect and strengthen the employee experience through effective retention, harmonization, and communication plans
- Continuously improve delivery by evolving playbooks, templates, and tools to scale best practices
Key responsibilities
Deal & project management:
- Lead end-to-end management of M&A projects from kickoff through close, often across multiple concurrent transactions
- Define the PP&B business case and align stakeholders on scope, timeline, resources, and success criteria
- Maintain project plans, milestones, risks, and reporting; oversee post-close execution and tracking
Transaction leadership & delivery
- Serve as the Talent M&A lead, owning core deliverables including diligence, offers, harmonization, retention programs, and benefits transitions
- Lead negotiations across workstreams, translating trade-offs into clear recommendations for decision-makers
Structuring, risk & compliance
- Partner with Legal, Tax, and Compensation to evaluate structuring options and recommend people-focused solutions
- Identify and mitigate legal, financial, and regulatory risks; ensure appropriate governance and approvals
Stakeholder engagement & governance
- Act as the central Talent M&A contact for business leaders, deal teams, and external advisors
- Build trusted relationships, present to ELT, and drive alignment and decision-making across stakeholders
Employee experience & change management
- Design and execute transition, communication, and retention strategies in partnership with Communications and Change teams
- Monitor employee impact and retention risk, advising leaders on mitigation actions
Continuous improvement
- Capture lessons learned and evolve playbooks, templates, and tools to improve delivery
- Lead process improvements and manage external partners as needed
Why you’ll love Talent M&A
- Work on high-impact, strategic transactions that shape the company’s future
- Partner with senior leaders and cross-functional experts across the enterprise
- Lead with autonomy and influence meaningful people outcomes
- Be part of a team focused on employee experience, continuous improvement, and professional growth
