Description

The Supervisor, Forensic Underwriting leads a team of Forensic Underwriters responsible for identifying true risk exposures, ensuring accurate premium calculations, and detecting potential misrepresentation or fraud. This role combines people leadership with deep technical expertise, overseeing complex forensic underwriting analyses while serving as a trusted expert and partner to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), legal teams, and internal business partners.


Responsibilities

  • Hires, Coaches, develops and motivates direct reports. Provides feedback, training, guidance and development to staff. Provides training opportunities. Evaluates performance and provides feedback for growth improvements.
  • Defines individual objectives and development plans, and ensures alignment with team and unit objectives. Recruits, interviews and recommends hiring new employees.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations for the staff by establishing priorities, scheduling and assigning work, adjusting schedules when necessary to meet completion dates, and assisting others with resolving problems in order to achieve good business outcomes.
  • Analyze financial impact / profitability of proceeding with further case review. Encourages, supports, and acts on results of problem-solving initiatives intended to improve work processes and outcomes.
  • Champions change initiatives, supports people through transition tracks results and addresses issues. Acting with highest degree of autonomy, applies extensive knowledge and skill to manage the most complex cases. Responsibilities include:
  • Thoroughly investigates the most complex issues related to ownership, classification, exposures, etc., through a comprehensive knowledge of all insurance rules and regulations.
  • Uses an expert level of knowledge/skill to analyze anomalies, inconsistencies, incomplete information, eligibility, coverage, exposure and ownership concerns that have been identified in the manual review.
  • Evaluates information from internal service departments and external sources to gain a better understanding of the true operations and exposures of a risk as well as the proper premium computation.
  • Participates in special projects and assignments that are of significant importance to the Special Investigation Unit and Commercial Service Operations.
  • Provide assistance to SIU Forensic Consultants on their assigned cases and attorneys in various stages of litigation, mediation, appeal and/or disputes.

  • Extensive knowledge of company policies, procedures, and processes related to underwriting, auditing, billing, collections, and claims
  • Strong understanding of property and casualty insurance concepts, including multi‑state coverage considerations
  • Familiarity with external mechanisms and entities that administer insurance programs across multiple jurisdictions
  • Proven ability to lead and direct the work of others, implement strategies and plans developed by senior leaders, and achieve business objectives with integrity
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills, including staff development, coaching, and performance management
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen actively, deliver complex messages clearly, gain stakeholder support, and promote collaboration across teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented, fast‑changing environment and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience in underwriting, forensic underwriting, insurance operations, or a closely related field
