US Retail Markets (USRM) Claims & Servicing Technology is seeking a strategic and execution focused engineering leader to serve as Engineering Director for our Property and Segmentation & Assignment portfolio. In this role, you’ll lead a high-performing team within the USRM Claims & Servicing Tech organization focused on delivering experiences & platforms for Property Adjustors in USRM Claims. You’ll also help shape and drive the engineering strategy for Property Claims as well as Segmentation and Assignment platforms, which are reusable across all lines of business. This role partners closely across Personal Lines and Small Commercial Claims and Service organizations, data office and data science teams.

As Engineering Director, you will be responsible for building, developing, and empowering a high-performing engineering team that delivers innovative, scalable solutions. You will lead both people leaders and senior technical leaders, overseeing talent development and resource alignment to ensure the team is positioned to meet evolving business priorities. As a senior leader, you will also contribute to broader organizational planning and serve as a thought leader who advances the craft of engineering across USRM and Liberty Mutual.

About the role:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing engineering organization, including both people leaders and senior technical leaders.
  • Shape and drive the engineering strategy for migrating rating programs and implementing new programs within our modern rating engine using enterprise architecture standards, modern engineering practices, and long-term technology direction.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to co-develop solutions that accelerate speed and unlock business value.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and experimentation, while ensuring high standards for code quality, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee talent development, performance management, and succession planning across the team, including hiring, coaching, and mentoring of engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
  • Influence enterprise technology strategy by contributing to architectural decisions, platform investments, and the adoption of emerging technologies such as GenAI, while leveraging and building cloud-native platforms.
  • Collaborate with senior and executive leaders across USRM, and Liberty Mutual to align engineering priorities with business goals, manage interdependencies, and support broader organizational planning.
  • Represent the team in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation discussions, ensuring effective deployment of engineering capacity across initiatives.
  • Serve as a thought leader and visible champion for innovation and engineering craft within USRM and across Liberty Mutual’s broader technology community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Generally, more than 10 years related experience with 5 years in leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities. In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of project planning methodologies and tools and IT standards and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques. Ability to promote a team environment consisting of several teams.
  • Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.
