Description
Asst Director , Product Research, Liberty Mutual Mobility Solutions
Are you looking for an opportunity to join a nimble, high-performance team addressing a strategic and high-visibility opportunity for a Fortune 100 company? Liberty Mutual Mobility Solutions is working to develop solutions for the future of transportation, and we’re seeking a consultant to support product research and development for new mobility insurance products. You will be responsible for drafting and maintaining coverage language and forms, in addition to assessing product compliance. You will also prepare and collaborate on internal filings, as well as analyze competitor filings. Join us as we work with the firms that are changing the way people and goods move – including autonomous vehicles, ridehail, car sharing, subscription, micromobility, and more.
This role requires a highly adaptive and innovative approach to coverage design, including development of manuscript solutions for emerging mobility and autonomous vehicle risks where traditional insurance frameworks may not yet exist. The role will operate at the intersection of product, underwriting, claims, legal, and strategy to help shape scalable insurance solutions for evolving transportation models.
This role will help drive the development of mobility segment products and segment strategies to help us stay ahead of and capitalize on the disruptions we see and anticipate in the transportation space. A key to success in this role (and for the success of our team) will be the ability to adapt the traditional capabilities of commercial lines and personal lines insurance products to appropriately address the coverage needs of our mobility customers.
The role will play a key part in evaluating and designing coverage approaches for emerging risks associated with autonomous vehicles, teleoperation, platform liability, mixed fleet models, and evolving mobility ecosystems — often in environments where market standards and regulatory frameworks are still developing.
As part of the Mobility Solutions team, you will be involved with a top priority cross-business unit initiative aimed at positioning our company for success as transportation evolves. With a number of new mobility products already in market, this role will be responsible for executing on opportunities to improve and expand our portfolio.
Responsibilities:
• Product Development – You will be responsible for managing multiple Mobility product form and contract initiatives, including the preparation of filings. You'll analyze information from various resources and be able to make recommendations while working with others across LMMS. You will be innovating with other teams in order to design and develop coverage language for new products in a fast-paced environment.
• Coverage Innovation & Emerging Risk Design – Design and evolve manuscript coverage solutions for emerging mobility and AV exposures. Evaluate novel liability and operational models involving autonomous systems, teleoperation, platform liability, and mixed fleet structures. Partner across underwriting, claims, legal, actuarial, and strategy teams to develop commercially viable and scalable coverage approaches in areas where market standards are still emerging.
• Market/Product Research – You’ll be responsible for answering inquiries related to coverages, forms, manuscripts, and contracts. You will monitor bureau and state legislative activity, evaluating impacts to our existing Mobility products, as well as how competitors address coverage. Your insights on the current and competitor coverage landscape will be key to driving towards our profitability goals.
• Project Management - You will drive and coordinate cross-functional coverage initiatives, working closely with teammates in other functions (including partnerships, underwriting, pricing, and claims) and business units to build on our competitive advantage and enhance our positioning in the marketplace. Typical coverage work will be focused on pursuing new business opportunities, renewing key accounts, building critical capabilities, and building thought leadership in the marketplace.
Ideal candidate:
• Prior product experience with analyzing and drafting commercial insurance policy contracts, as well as preparing filings and responding to objections.
• Experience drafting manuscript coverage language and navigating complex or non-standard insurance structures strongly preferred.
• Project management experience working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders.
• Prior experience pulling and reviewing competitor filings beneficial.
• Highly developed critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
• Prior experience in Claims, Underwriting, and/or Compliance in the insurance industry is helpful.
• Experience with Commercial Auto and/or General Liability products is preferable.
• Experience with emerging mobility, autonomous vehicle, transportation network company (TNC), specialty casualty, or other evolving risk environments is strongly preferred.
• Track record of framing decisions and recommending trade-offs.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence others (both with and without authority).
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives.
