Description

In today's rapidly evolving landscape, data has emerged as the most valuable asset for driving innovation, enhancing customer experiences, and managing risk with unparalleled precision. At Liberty Mutual, we recognize that harnessing data's full potential requires more than just technology — it demands both robust governance and the engineering, architecture, and solution-building capabilities that turn raw data into trusted, scalable products.

This is an exciting and pivotal moment to be part of our data maturity journey within the People, Purpose, and Brand Office of Data and Data Science. With regulatory environments becoming increasingly complex, consumer expectations soaring, and competitive pressures intensifying, the ability to design and deliver high-quality data solutions is no longer just a technical function — it's a strategic imperative that empowers smarter decision-making, unlocks new growth opportunities, and safeguards our reputation.

This is a People Leader role which manages a team of Data Solutionists to deliver, enhance, and automate key processes to enable the business. This role partners closely with key stakeholders within our Reporting team, analytical teams, Governance team, and our aligned tech squad to ensure solutions are not build in a vacuum but rather as part of a wholistic data strategy, maximizing value and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and govern our Experimental Snowflake schema, taking partially formed ideas and immature datasets and building, iterating, and hardening their design before migrating them to standard production pipelines.
  • Translate vague ideas and ambiguous problems into clear data product strategies, influencing strategic thinking across your teams and the broader organization, and incorporating enterprise direction, tools, and patterns into operational process flows.
  • Lead the team in designing, prototyping, and developing scalable data solutions — from proof-of-concept through production — that meet organizational and business customer needs, partnering with IT to scale and institutionalize them across the enterprise.
  • Identify manual, inefficient processes and design automation and/or AI-enabled solutions, establishing best practices for reusable, modular code across multiple programming languages.
  • Set technical standards for iterative testing, code quality, and engineering rigor, applying a deep understanding of complex multi-tier, multi-platform systems and embedding metadata, lineage, business definitions, compliance, and data security into all solution work.
  • Ensure high data quality, integrity, and timeliness across operational and analytical datasets, partnering closely with Data Governance to align solution delivery with our governance framework, regulatory requirements, and ethical data-use standards.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects and act as a change agent — defining business-impactful metrics, prioritizing by customer value, setting expectations for team deliverables, transferring knowledge through documentation, and cultivating a data-focused mentality across functional areas.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate is a technical leader and strategic thinker who pairs deep engineering credibility with the ability to influence at the executive level.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach, enabling effective partnership with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • A curious, proactive problem-solving mindset and a commitment to continuous learning, with the ability to navigate complex data challenges and adapt to evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Strategic thinking and accountability, aligning data solution efforts with broader business objectives to ensure trusted, compliant, and value-driven data use across the organization.
  • The ability to lead concurrently across many workstreams with limited direction, while developing and inspiring high-performing technical teams.
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline preferred
  • Master`s in same or related disciplines strongly preferred
  • 7-10 years experience in coding for data management, data warehousing, or other data environments, including, but not limited to, working in SQL, ETL, Snowflake, PowerBI, DataBricks, Python
