Description

At Copper Giants, we are out to destroy the current client/agency working relationship and replace it with something radical: Joy. We combine our extensive consumer knowledge through data and research from Liberty Mutual with talented, award-winning former agency professionals who are tired of the old industry BS - and who love doing great work with great partners. Together, we're building and transforming brands to do well financially, do good in the world, and enjoy doing it.

We're looking for a driven Business Affairs Manager to join our anti-agency agency. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned business affairs professional with deep advertising and marketing expertise who is passionate about delivering exceptional work across every channel and platform. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of the creative process from brief to market, exceptional judgment and decision-making skills, and the ability to navigate complex business, legal, and talent-related matters in a fast-paced environment.

You'll be part of the Copper Giants team while partnering closely with Liberty Mutual Corporate Legal, Advertising, Procurement, and our external advertising agency. Success in this role will come from your ability to build strong relationships, negotiate effectively, manage multiple priorities, and provide strategic guidance that helps bring impactful creative work to life.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Review all advertising content and provide expert guidance related to intellectual property matters, marketplace risk, and legal concerns as they relate to creative materials.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary point of contact for SAG-AFTRA and the Joint Policy Committee (JPC), leveraging extensive knowledge of SAG-AFTRA Commercials contracts and union requirements.
  • Oversee and manage talent strategy across campaigns and agencies, including negotiating talent agreements, tracking talent costs and projections, and proactively communicating relevant updates. Experience working with overscale talent is highly valued.
  • Monitor the evolving AI production landscape and advise on internal policies governing AI-generated content, applying a strong understanding of Generative AI production and associated intellectual property implications.
  • Partner closely with producers, creatives, business stakeholders, and external agency teams throughout the creative development and production process.
  • Manage licensing, usage rights, and renewals for creative assets, including music, stock photography, video, imagery, and other licensed content, while maintaining talent and asset tracking systems.
  • Support all spokesperson and mascot appearances, ensuring proper rights management and compliance.
  • Manage network clearance for all broadcast content across agency partners.
  • Support production partner management, including contracting, agreements, and vendor relationships.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Liberty Mutual brand voice and ensure business affairs guidance aligns with advertising objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with Liberty Mutual Corporate Legal, Procurement, Advertising, Copper Giants, external advertising agencies, talent unions, and outside legal counsel as needed.

Ideal candidates will bring :

  • Significant Business Affairs experience within an advertising agency, brand, or similar marketing-driven organization, along with a strong understanding of the creative development process from brief to market. They have expertise in talent negotiations, SAG-AFTRA agreements, intellectual property and rights management, and advertising-related legal and business affairs matters.
  • Success in this role requires strong judgment, communication, presentation, project management, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be comfortable collaborating with and influencing stakeholders at all levels, partnering with external agencies, and leveraging emerging technologies, including Generative AI, to support business objectives.
  • Experience within regulated industries, particularly insurance or financial services, is preferred.
