Description

Small Commercial Property Line of Business Manager

**Candidates who live within 50 miles of our Boston, Portsmouth, Columbus, Plano or Seattle offices will be on-site two days per week.

About the Role

We are seeking a people leader to join our Small Commercial Line of Business Management team — a team that sits at the forefront of building market-leading products and driving strategic growth. In this role, you will lead a team of four while serving as the senior Property subject matter expert, owning countrywide Property analytics, product strategy, building new products, and guiding P&L performance for the line.

This is a high-visibility role that blends deep technical expertise with strategic leadership. You will serve as a key driver of both profit and growth, leading cross-functional workstreams, shaping the expansion of our new BOP product into additional industries, and enabling new coverages — all with Property as your foundational area of expertise. Your insights and recommendations will directly influence senior and executive-level decision-making.

What You'll Do

Property P&L & Performance Management

  • Guide the Property line P&L within the Small Commercial portfolio, partnering with State teams to monitor performance, identify trends, and deliver actionable recommendations that drive profitability and growth
  • Lead moderate to highly complex analyses evaluating product and contract performance, translating findings into clear tactical and strategic recommendations
  • Build new Property products, enhance and iterate on in-market Property products
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Property-focused analytics, including ad hoc and formal analysis of key business metrics

Strategy & Product Development

  • Drive line of business strategy by leading cross-functional initiatives supporting both new product development and the evolution of existing Property products
  • Consult on complex business and design challenges, including identifying and proposing enhancements to Property product offerings
  • Monitor competitive landscape, market trends, and industry developments to inform strategic positioning
  • Contribute directly to new product concepts and Property product strategy

People Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead and develop a team of four, fostering a culture of curiosity, analytical rigor, and continuous growth
  • Lead cross-functional workstreams on medium to long-term, moderate to high complexity projects
  • Build scalable tools and repeatable processes for use across cross-functional partners and analysts
  • Develop and deliver executive-level presentations to senior stakeholders, including Small Commercial leadership and the Chief Product Officer
  • Champion knowledge sharing through mentorship, training materials, and formal development sessions

What You'll Bring

  • A passion for people leadership, with a proven ability to cultivate an inclusive, engaging team environment where individuals are empowered to grow, collaborate, and do their best work
  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
  • 6+ years of experience in commercial insurance product management, underwriting, or strategy, with demonstrated Property line expertise
  • Proven track record of guiding P&L outcomes for a Property or related commercial insurance line
  • Strong working knowledge of Small Commercial products, including Property and BOP
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in data tools such as SAS, SQL, Snowflake, and/or Power BI
  • Exceptional planning, analytical, communication, and decision-making skills with the ability to lead and inspire others

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field. Masters, PhD, or equivalent helpful given quantitative work they are leading.
  • Minimum of 7, typically 10 years or more relevant work experience.
  • Expert skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, Emblem).
  • Must have exceptional planning, analytical, decision-making, communication, and project management skills.
  • Expert knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans), predictive modeling, and code (e.g., SQL).
  • Significant understanding of competitors' pricing strategies and relationship to our own.
  • Industry knowledge developed from internal meetings, news alerts, project-specific work, and proactive research into competitor strategies.
