Job Summary:
Handles some of the most complex Surety claims and fidelity matters. Directly investigates, evaluates, and implements strategies and recovery
matters for assigned claims. Manages support staff/Claim Specialists and/or assign/review work of claims assistants and, Specialists. Manages and/or is responsible for the implementation of, and compliance with surety claims
procedures. Provides claims advice and carries out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company and customers while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Independently investigates, evaluates, and responds to some of the most complex Surety and Fidelity claims per delegated authority. As necessary, recommends and executes retention of outside accountants, engineers, contractors, consultants and attorneys to assist in the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of bond and indemnity disputes and manages the retained outside vendors. Communicate with all related parties to a claim, including but not limited to: principal, indemnitors, attorneys, obligees, claimants, insureds, the court, interested parties and any internal and external professionals. Utilizes expert analytical skills, experience and interdisciplinary knowledge of Surety, financial operations, statutory interpretations and the construction business to effectively investigate, analyze and resolve the claims, including attending and participating in legal proceedings as appropriate. Interacts and collaborates with regional peers and Senior Management to ensure consistency and efficient resolution of all procedural issues. Ensures Surety claims handling and documentation is compliant with applicable legal, regulatory, corporate and bond requirements. Identifies the need for, creates and analyzes reports to provide to management for business purposes, and participates in special projects as directed. Leads complex projects.
- Directs/handles all financial aspects of the claim including, but not limited to, recommending, adjusting, and maintaining reserves, issuing payments, and identifying and collecting salvage recovery, both directly and through assignment to internal or external salvage recovery teams.
- Works collaboratively and builds relationships with internal and external stakeholders/parties.
- Expertly analyzes/directs technical and legal related issues, as needed for fact gathering, investigating, researching, drafting and resolving
- Responsibilities may include management of Surety Claims support/claim Specialist staff within assigned region, such as hiring, training, mentoring/coaching, formal and regular 1:1 review activities. Develops individual performance objectives and development plans and insures alignment with business objectives. May appraise and evaluate team and individual performance and make compensation recommendations. May assign/delegate work including general supervision of support activities.
- Secures/maintains all required state adjuster licenses and completes all required continuing education courses in a timely manner. Participate in industry-related conferences and/or events.
- With the RVP and Operations team, assists in the development and implementation of best practices for AI use with the Commercial surety team, including supporting and modeling those best AI practices consistent with AI use guidelines.
If the selected candidate lives within 50 miles of a GRS office, then the selected candidate must be prepared to come into the office two days/week. This policy is subject to change.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in Business Administration or related field typically required
- 10+ years of surety claims experience expected, handling the most complex Surety claims matters
- Significant experience handling, organizing and resolving complex commercial surety claims with advanced knowledge of surety claims practices (investigation, evaluation, contract language, loss assessment, etc.)
- A full working knowledge of surety claims operations and procedures as well as the ability to communicate effectively is required
- Expert knowledge of Surety bonds, law/legal issues, construction contracts, and/or fidelity policies, including related claims processing, and terminology
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to make decisions and communicate them with confidence to senior management, internal and external customers, partners, and stakeholders
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage internal staff and/or outside vendors and partner with internal resources combined with relationship skills
- Expert analytical ability to evaluate claims/exposures and drive decisions
- Exercises a high level of autonomy in handling, managing and reviewing the most complex assigned cases and transactional requests
- Must be able to travel as required, including overnight hotel stays.
