Description
The GRS Data Architecture Leader is a senior technology leadership role responsible for directing and managing a team of Data Architects within the Global Risk Solutions (GRS) organization at Liberty Mutual. This position provides strategic oversight of GRS data architecture, ensuring alignment between enterprise technology standards and GRS business objectives. The incumbent will drive architectural governance, enable high-quality solution delivery, and cultivate a culture of technical excellence and continuous innovation. This role requires a balance of deep technical expertise, organizational leadership, and the ability to influence across a large, matrixed enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve the GRS Data North Star Architecture and multi-year roadmap aligned to LM enterprise technology strategy and GRS business priorities
- Represent GRS Data Architecture in annual planning, cross-domain forums, and enterprise governance bodies
- Lead, develop, and manage a team of Data Architects with clear performance expectations, coaching, and career development
- Serve as a senior technical advisor, translating complex architectural concepts into business-relevant communications for all stakeholder levels
- Partner with GRS Data & Analytics Office, Business Agility, Enterprise Architecture, to drive architecture alignment
- Oversee architectural guidance, design reviews, and enablement support provided to GRS solution delivery teams
- Chair and continuously improve the Architecture Review Board (ARB) to govern solution adherence to enterprise standards
- Maintain accountability for Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and periodic platform health reviews to surface risk, technical debt, and cost implications
- Lead evaluation and adoption of emerging data technologies and frameworks aligned to business objectives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related data technology discipline
- 5+ years of people management or technical team leadership experience
- Deep expertise in enterprise data architecture — data modeling, integration, warehousing, and cloud-native/Lakehouse platform design
- Proven ability to influence and drive alignment across senior stakeholders in a matrixed organization
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and executive audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries
- Familiarity with the Well Architected Framework and LM enterprise architecture standards
- Experience partnering with data science and AI/ML teams to design and govern scalable data platforms, feature engineering pipelines, and model-ready data products that accelerate enterprise AI initiatives
- Active participation in external data and technology industry forums or communities of practice
