Description

Model Portfolio Strategy Lead — Personal & Specialty Underwriting Effectiveness

Within P&S Underwriting Effectiveness, the Model Portfolio Strategy Lead is responsible for setting and driving the strategy and prioritization of Liberty Mutual's underwriting model portfolio across the full policy lifecycle — pre-bind, post-bind, and in-force. As a senior individual contributor, this role owns the multi-year model roadmap - partnering across data science, IT, and underwriting to ensure we build the right models, with the right priority, to deliver measurable economic value.

**This position may have in-office requirements depending on candidate location.**

**This is a ranged G17/G18 posting and level offered will be based on candidate experience at manager discretion.**

  • Develops and maintains the multi-year model portfolio roadmap, prioritizing builds across model types in partnership with data science (USDS) and technology (Runway/IT).
  • Owns model portfolio and IT prioritization, ensuring technical partners are focused on the highest-impact work and aligning model priorities within broader organizational planning.
  • Leads strategy for in-force underwriting models, including deployment of the In-Force Profit Model and development of enhancements to target underpriced and higher-risk segments.
  • Identifies and quantifies new underwriting opportunities such as integrating Claims and other internal/vendor data into in-force and new-business strategy.
  • Partners with Model Strategy Leads and cross-functional teams (Data, Risk Analytics, State, Delivery, Legal/Compliance) to ensure a cohesive, well-sequenced model portfolio.
  • Evaluates emerging tools and data sources (e.g., Aerial imagery, quote-level investigation platforms) for underwriting application.
  • Presents strategy, roadmap, and recommendations to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field. 6 years, typically 8 years or more relevant work experience. Master's degree beneficial.
  • Proficient in data analysis software (e.g., SAS, SQL, Python) and PowerPoint/Excel.
  • Strong planning, organization, analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytic, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with proven ability to make and execute data-driven decisions.
  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting models, business processes, underwriting rules, and pricing/product concepts.
  • Strong understanding of insurance concepts and financial metrics.
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategy and influence prioritization across technical and business partners without direct authority.
