Description
Hiring Manager: John Gratton
Liberty Mutual’s Investor Relations & Market Insights team, within Capital Management, leads how the company communicates its financial strength, performance, and strategy to investors in a clear and credible way. We develop the messaging and insights that help investors understand Liberty Mutual’s financial results, capital position, strategic priorities, and long-term value proposition. The team also monitors competitors, industry trends, capital markets, and strategic activity to provide leadership with an external perspective on how the market is evolving and how Liberty Mutual is positioned. These insights support decision-making across capital deployment, M&A, risk financing, and broader financial strategy, while also helping prepare senior leaders for engagement with investors, the Board, and other key stakeholders.
We are seeking a Lead Financial Analyst with a strong foundation in P&C insurance finance and a genuine curiosity about the industry. This role will be an important contributor to the team’s quarterly earnings process, competitor monitoring and analysis, and development of AI-enabled tools that strengthen our competitive intelligence capabilities. The ideal candidate is analytically strong, understands the financial and operating drivers of an insurance company, and enjoys digging into competitor results and industry developments to understand not only what happened, but why it matters.
Responsibilities:
- Support the quarterly earnings preparation process, including financial analysis, development of earnings materials, coordination of inputs, and execution of key deliverables and timelines.
- Perform quarterly competitor monitoring and benchmarking across underwriting performance, growth, profitability, capital, balance sheet trends, and other key insurance financial and operating metrics.
- Monitor competitor and industry developments and identify themes, trends, and potential implications for Liberty Mutual.
- Analyze public disclosures, earnings materials, industry research, and market information to develop clear insights and takeaways for Finance leadership.
- Develop supporting materials to communicate insights to senior leadership and other stakeholders, including talking points, presentation development, Q&A preparation, dashboards, and other formats.
- Help build and enhance AI-enabled tools, workflows, and dashboards that improve the speed, quality, and breadth of competitor and industry analysis.
- Support capital markets and broader Capital Management priorities through financial analysis, market research, and benchmarking.
- Contribute to selected M&A and strategic initiatives, including competitive assessments, market frameworks, and other analytical work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong knowledge of the P&C insurance industry and its key financial and operating metrics, including underwriting profitability, loss and expense trends, reserve development, premium growth, capital, and balance sheet performance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret insurer financial performance and identify meaningful trends and business implications.
- Genuine curiosity about the insurance industry, competitors, market developments, and the factors driving company performance.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate financial concepts and analytical findings clearly.
- Interest in and experience using AI or other technology to improve financial analysis, research, or competitive intelligence.
- Experience in FP&A, capital management, strategy, competitive intelligence, or another insurance finance role is preferred.
