Description

Join Liberty Mutual's USRM Catastrophe Management team, where you'll sit at the intersection of science, regulation, and strategy: turning complex hazard research into the underwriting rules that protect Liberty Mutual's Personal Lines and Small Commercial portfolios from hurricane, earthquake, wildfire, and severe storm exposure. Your work won't sit in a drawer — it will shape state-level guidance, survive regulatory scrutiny, and get built directly into the quoting systems. As a Senior Analyst, you will perform business research designed to improve business processes and support decisions that contribute to the growth of profitable business.

**This position may have in-office requirements dependent upon candidate location.**

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research within Liberty Mutual and/or externally to obtain information such as financial data, product or market profiles, or business process flows.
  • Works with other departments, conducts interviews, or conducts primary or secondary research if information is not readily available.
  • Compiles information and analyzes qualitatively and/or quantitatively, developing software applications/models and conducting follow-up and data verification as needed.
  • Analyzes feasibility, cost ramifications, economies, or other aspects of planned or potential programs.
  • Based on analysis, develops reports, proposals for action, or implementation plans as necessary and presents to supervisor or manager.
  • Researches and quantifies hazard risk (hurricane, earthquake, wildfire, severe storm) by incorporating the latest science, methods, and data to inform underwriting guidance.
  • Translates risk assessment, regulatory requirements and technical capabilities into detailed underwriting rules, hazard area restrictions, and project deliverables in partnership with technical and business teams.
  • Supports day-to-day catastrophe management by responding to questions regarding underwriting rules and processes, regulatory objections or data calls and ad hoc research and guidance.
  • Communicates with other departments as necessary.
  • Works with other departments to coordinate interdepartmental activities in order to ensure that Liberty meets customer expectations.
  • Resolves problems as needed to ensure that customers receive prompt, efficient service in accordance with company policies.
  • Meets with supervisor to discuss project status and present recommendations; performs special projects as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum 3 years, typically 4 or more years of experience, or equivalent, is required.
  • Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or other quantitative field are preferred fields of study.
  • Advanced knowledge of data sources, tools, statistical principles and methodologies, and techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (VBA, macros, scripts, formulas, data visualization, etc.), PowerPoint, and statistical software packages (SAS, Python).
  • Must have good planning, analytical, decision-making and communication skills. Solid understanding of business to improve business outcomes.
