The GRS Distribution and Underwriting Technology organization is looking for a Solutions Engineer to lead the technical vision for the Risk Proposal and Issuance portfolio. RPI is the organization within the Underwriting Workbench that is responsible for a comprehensive suite of digital products that enables our underwriting business throughout the lifecycle of a policy. Our portfolio is responsible for providing valuable insights to their book of business, and enabling the processing of the quote through proposal, forms management, book, bind, issue and post-issuance transactions mainly surfaced through the iUnderwrite system of engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end solutions that align with enterprise architecture principles, standards, and long-term strategy.
  • Partner with business, product, architecture, engineering, and delivery teams to solve user problems and translate needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend modern technologies, platforms, and patterns that improve scalability, resilience, performance, and maintainability.
  • Drives AI strategy and enablement by identifying high-value use cases, shaping solution patterns, and partnering across teams to responsibly integrate AI capabilities into business and technology solutions.
  • Lead cross-portfolio collaboration to influence solution decisions, manage dependencies, and ensure alignment across multiple business and technology areas.
  • Provide technical oversight for high-visibility business initiatives, ensuring solution integrity, delivery readiness, and adherence to strategic direction.
  • Participate in architectural decisioning, trade-off analysis, and governance activities to guide solution selection and implementation.
  • Create and validate solution estimates, including effort, complexity, dependencies, and risk considerations.
  • Support planning activities by breaking down solution scope into deliverable components and identifying key assumptions and constraints.
  • Ensure solutions address both immediate user needs and long-term platform and architecture objectives.
  • Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders to build shared understanding and decision consensus.
  • Identify opportunities for reuse, simplification, automation, and technical optimization across portfolios.
  • Contribute to best practices, standards, and patterns that improve solution delivery consistency and quality.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Ten years of related software engineering experience
  • A comprehensive understanding of agile environments
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary frameworks and emerging technologies
  • A history of practicing DevOps and SecOps
  • A strong background in business operations and strategies, including knowledge of global business, technology trends and the financial services industry

Skills

  • Solid negotiation, facilitation, consensus building and influencing capabilities
  • Ability to identify patterns and problems across teams and deliver effective solutions
  • Openness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstances
  • A design thinking and test-driven development mindset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an aptitude for working in teams
  • Knowledge
  • Experience developing or architecting cloud-hosted, responsive web applications using Java, HTML5 and CSSS3
  • Strong background in code review
  • High-level proficiency with client-side JavaScript frameworks, server-side frameworks, and NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with event-based System of Engagement architectures and integration with API exposing microservices
  • Deep understanding of layered solutions and designs
  • Cognizance of security concerns, from access control and authentication to secured SDLC processes
  • Understanding of DCI/MDM systems, data ingestion and cloud-scale data sets

Education

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
