Description
Global Legal & Compliance’s (GL&C) 2030 vision is clear: we are both a protector of the enterprise and an accelerator of Liberty Mutual's ability to win in the markets where we compete. Getting there requires us to operate with a single shared direction, connecting every practice group to GL&C's priorities through trusted data, forward-looking intelligence and the capabilities to work differently. To that end, the Strategy, Intelligence and Integration (SII) team has been created to bring critical capabilities together to move the GL&C organization in one direction, prioritize consistently, and build skills at the pace our work demands.
As part of the GL&C SII Team, the Strategy & Alignment (S&A) Partner will strengthen alignment between GL&C’s internal Legal practice groups (PGs) and teams, drive enterprise-level integrated prioritization, govern and maintain investment and expense management stewardship, and support GL&C’s 2030 roadmap execution. Together, GL&C’s S&A Partners function as a key center of excellence (COE) for the GL&C organization in these domain areas.
The S&A Partners, in their PG-aligned roles, will optimize execution and decision making, bringing to bear the full suite of GL&C’s operational and enablement capabilities positioned across the SII and newly established Performance and Execution (P&E) teams. SII sets GL&C’s destination: the vision, priorities, and business alignment. Performance & Execution determines what it takes to get there: whether initiatives are operationally viable, which delivery model is optimal, and what is required for success.
About the Openings
We are hiring 4 Assistant Director, S&A Partner roles. Two are embedded directly with practice group leadership teams; two are GL&C-wide, building new areas of capability. All 4 report to the Strategy & Operations Leader within SII.
Role 1. Business Unit Legal Embedded with the leadership teams supporting USRM Legal, LMI Legal, and GRS Legal. You will translate GL&C priorities into business unit context and connect three distinct legal organizations to one shared direction.
Role 2. Enterprise Functions Embedded with Enterprise Legal, Global Compliance & Ethics, and Corporate Litigation leadership teams. You will align enterprise-facing legal and compliance groups to GL&C's 2030 priorities.
Role 3. Investment & Expense Stewardship A GL&C-wide role focused on budget integration, productivity target management, and governance of GL&C's investment posture — partnering closely with Corporate Finance.
Role 4. Global Integration & One Legal A GL&C-wide role focused on integrating our North America and outside-the-US operations, monitoring market and peer trends, and delivering a consistent One Legal story on purpose, priorities, and performance.
Applying: Please apply if you're interested. We will review your application and if there's mutual interest, we will be in touch to discuss the role(s) of interest to you.
What You'll Do
Core to all 4 roles
Align strategy to execution. Set the strategic framework and department-level goals in partnership with the leaders you support, translate GL&C priorities into their specific context, track progress, and surface misalignment or resource gaps early. Practice group leaders retain full ownership and accountability for execution — your role is to create the line of sight from department strategy to team-level delivery.
Own priority tracking and reporting. Maintain the process and system of record for GL&C priority tracking, with standardized reporting through dashboards and other tools. Drive timely, consistent inputs in partnership with the teams responsible for delivery.
Coordinate across practice groups. Identify connections, facilitate coordination on GL&C-wide priorities, and define how GL&C engages in enterprise initiatives — including a clear pathway for when and how practice group resources are mobilized.
Establish operating rhythms and governance. Build the cadences, forums, and coordination mechanisms that keep GL&C operating as one organization while preserving practice group autonomy. You will sit as a standing member of the leadership tables you support, bringing cross-group context and enterprise signals into local planning, and convene regularly with fellow S&A Partners to surface themes for the CLO and GL&C Leadership Team.
Navigate change and drive adoption. Serve as the translational layer that helps teams understand, communicate, and adopt GL&C-wide decisions with clarity and confidence. As 2030 operating model designs, AI and work reimagination initiatives, and strategic workforce outputs land, you will help leaders understand the implications and turn them into action — whether the decision concerns investment posture, outsourcing, technology adoption, or how work gets done.
Advance AI adoption. Drive visibility into AI use cases, adoption, and productivity impact, contributing to GL&C's reporting against annual and 2030 AI targets. Partner with teams to progress from everyday AI experimentation toward supercharging work on Liberty's Gen AI maturity curve.
Connect talent practices to strategy. Ensure career paths, promotions, performance, succession, and learning are informed by GL&C's strategic priorities, investment posture, and 2030 direction — partnering with GL&C Talent Partners at defined moments such as goal setting, succession planning, and setting learning priorities, with clear accountability and no duplication.
