Description
North America Actuarial & Analytics is seeking an analyst who will be responsible for supporting the Energy & Mid Construction Underwriting teams. You will work directly with underwriting, product and actuarial to enhance pricing decisions and support underwriting strategy. This position will be focused on providing high-quality analyses and effectively communicating key outcomes to support ongoing/prospective strategies. As such, the successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in a collaborative environment.
If the selected candidate lives within 50 miles of a GRS office, the expectation is for the candidate to be in the office two times/week for collaboration. This policy is subject to change.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support to actuaries and others by performing analyses to assist business decision making, financial planning, and strategy development.
- Own and continuously improve recurring monitoring reports and standing exhibits, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery to underwriting and actuarial stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Casualty and Cross Lines Pricing Teams on tools used by Underwriting.
- Assist in the preparation of actuarial research and complex reports and studies; Communicate and present findings and exhibits to peers and UW audiences.
- Provide clear and concise communication of technical work to technical and non-technical audiences, and on cross functional teams.
- Work with underwriting to provide account level support.
- Maintain clear and concise documentation of methods and activities.
- Retrieve, understand, and manipulate data as it relates to assigned and related projects.
- Build and maintain tools that enhance pricing and support underwriting strategy.
- Support account segmentation exercises that vary by segment & industry.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, statistics, economics, actuarial science, data science) or equivalent experience.
- 2–4 years of insurance and/or analytical experience; experience supporting underwriting, pricing, or other insurance functions preferred.
- Strong Excel skills required; working proficiency in SAS or a similar query language strongly preferred; experience with Python, R, SQL, or similar tools a plus.
- Property & casualty insurance knowledge preferred, not required — desire to learn core insurance and actuarial concepts is essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical work for non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ownership of recurring deliverables, with consistent accuracy and self-review of work product.
