The Opportunity

The Head of Investment Management Governance & Reporting is a key role in the delivery of MassMutual’s investment strategy and in this, MassMutual’s purpose: to provide financial well-being to all Americans. We are seeking an innovative and collaborative leader to drive Investment Management’s strategy through ownership of Investment Management’s key areas, such as budget, compliance, governance, project management, due diligence, communication and business targets.  This role will also play a key role in ensuring Investment Management’s alignment with internal and external stakeholders through the establishment of common metrics, processes, and tools. 

The Team

The Investment Management Governance and Reporting team is key to ensuring that Investment Management’s communication, budget, and project prioritization are aligned with Investment Management’s overall strategy.  Against a backdrop of an increasingly complex general investment account portfolio with increasingly diverse asset classes and strategies, the team is also responsible for ensuring thorough compliance and due diligence within an increasingly complex regulatory environment. This team has several touchpoints both within and outside the organization.

The Impact:

Reporting to MassMutual’s Chief Investment Officer, the Head of Investment Management Governance and Reporting will be a member of the Investment Management senior leadership team and will play a key role in shaping MassMutual’s investment strategy. Accountabilities include:

  • Work with stakeholders to continually optimize governance and decision-making processes as the business context and technology landscape change; key cross-functional stakeholders include Corporate Finance, Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Law, Enterprise Technology, and product teams; external stakeholders include our subsidiary, Barings
  • Manage and optimize the Investment Management organization’s budget and forecast through collaboration with others
  • Generate all internal communications for the Investment Management business groups, other enterprise groups, and external stakeholders, as needed
  • Create and oversee all Investment Committee of the Board agendas, materials, and coordination
  • In partnership with our subsidiaries and corporate stakeholders, ensure best-in—class Investment Data Strategy and Integrity
  • Partner with Enterprise Technology to influence the development and maintenance of our core investment infrastructure to drive efficiencies as well as a path for future technology integration
  • Partner with the senior leadership team to define the future of Investment Management by assessing and analyzing the current state; by creating targets and goals; and by ensuring the Investment Management organization is aligned to meet these targets 
  • Oversee investment program discretionary spend and prioritization, with accountably for the Program Management Office for Investments
  • Drive the selection of IBOR
  • Lead and implement innovative strategies and prioritize activities that are aligned with MassMutual’s top strategic priorities
  • Administer all ongoing portfolio monitoring and reporting, including reporting/monitoring as per regulatory requirements
  • Oversee new and ongoing manager Due Diligence

The Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of executive and people management experience in the investments space
  • Demonstrated track record of managing long-term financial and strategic plans, identifying self-funding opportunities, and delivering relevant KPIs and productivity metrics
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and coordination with executives in other business units and subsidiaries
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Financial services background; insurance or related background preferrable; Understanding of Insurance Company investment portfolios a plus
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA), M&A experience
