Expense Accounting Analyst

Business Operations Controllership

Full-Time

Springfield, MA

The Opportunity

This new role in Expense Accounting represents equal parts cost accounting, financial modeling, and data analytics. You will be joining a new team on the ground floor deploying SAP’s allocation application. While execution and maintenance of the allocation models will be core responsibilities, we will be learning and growing together. Our goal is to spearhead utilization, mastering the tool’s production and simulation environments all while delivering data driven insights. If you are eager to apply data analytics in a financial modeling setting and you are enthusiastic about solving problems, this is for you.

The Team

The expense team is evolving into two mutual supporting sub teams – expense accounting and expense analysis. Together we ensure the accuracy and integrity of the ledgers for all expense accounts and connecting unallocated results to allocated results. Where we do not directly control the expenses, we partner with others to validate the amounts and understand drivers of change. As a team we are accountable for all general expenses, leases, fixed and intangible assets, inventory accounts, impairments, intercompany management fee agreements, general liabilities, financial exhibits, footnotes, and quarterly expense commentaries for both GAAP and STAT. We also partner closely with cost centers owners to provide guidance and training. While the team focuses on expenses, we are rapidly outgrowing that label.

The Impact:

This role is about mastering the mechanics of SAP’s Profitability and Performance Management application (PaPM). You will become a subject matter expert on the application’s full capabilities as we assume ownership of several key financial models that cross multiple functional areas. We will enable the business owners of these financial models through a center of excellence concept. Delivering allocated results to our business partners with transparency into the data and drivers will be how we add value.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4 + years of experience related to data modeling, accounting, business analytics, or general business reporting
  • 2+ years of experience working with general ledger data – large data sets
  • 2+ years of experience with data query/data analytics tools like SAP Business Warehouse, Analysis for Office, Power BI, Alteryx, Hyperion, or similar tools

The Ideal Qualifications

  • 6+ years of cost accounting and profitability analysis
  • Ability to use reporting tools to summarize and present data to business customers based on customized use cases
  • Demonstrated professional development plan – initiative-taking learning
  • Experience with allocations, assessments, and cost flows
  • Understanding of margin analysis and product/customer profitability
  • Previous partnerships with FP&A, cost center accounting (CO), and internal reporting
  • Ability to influence others using expert knowledge, effective communications and demonstrated results.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-tasking skills and adapt to change
  • Demonstrate accountability and commitment
