What You'll Do



Do you have a passion for and expertise in Paid Family Medical Leave claims?

If so, join Principal as a Sr Paid Family Medical Leave Claims Account Manager in our Claims Department. In this role, you'll serve as an expert liaison and strategist between the claim staff, underwriting, law and other departments to ensure the efficient and compliant processing of paid family medical leave claims. This is an opportunity to join a growing team and develop best practices and processes within a collaborative team environment.

Here are some examples of the things you'll do:

  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership responsibility for PFML claim analysts and claim consultants. This includes overall technical analysis and development of proactive claim strategies, working with reinsurers, and providing technical development of staff by consulting with analysts on claims decisions.
  • Work closely with senior level technical staff to provide overall technical development and training of claims staff resulting in acceptable results, while providing high quality service to the customer and field.
  • Consult and plan strategies for higher liability claims.
  • Review cases and formally audit files to ensure compliance to fair claims practices standards and internal validation model.
  • Consult with Compliance to assist in answering commissioner complaints, audits, and work to independently resolve other claim complaints.

Who You Are



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus 8+ years of experience consulting on complex claims processing.
  • 4+ years of Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) or absence management products experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of general claims practices, contracts, compliance customer service techniques.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Compass, and Fineos are a plus.
  • Must demonstrate sound leadership skills and sound business ethics.
  • Excellent technical claim coaching skills, effective issue identification and resolution, decision maker, and effective team builder.
  • Excellent customer service as well as verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Limited travel (~5%) is required.

Salary Range Information



Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)



$81900 - $147600 / year

Time Off Program



Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environment

This position can operate 100% remotely from anywhere within the United States. Candidates in the Des Moines, IA area will have the opportunity to establish a hybrid (minimum 3 days in the office) work arrangement.
