Position Overview

The Global Head of ETF Sales Strategy is responsible for leading a team of ETF subject matter experts representing State Street Global Advisors’ (SSGA) SPDR business. Working closely with SSGA’s Global Client Coverage group (CCG), members of this regionally and asset-class focused ETF Sales Strategy team will engage with institutional and intermediary investors around the world on product needs, investment topics, thought leadership and asset allocation ideas to drive sales and adoption. The team will be expected to represent SPDR’s full range of capabilities while also identifying emerging trends and use cases along with new product ideas. Reporting to SSGA’s Chief Business Officer, the Global Head of ETF Sales Strategy will play a valuable role in honing SPDR’s competitive position and elevating its presence, value proposition, visibility and market share given its central role in understanding market feedback, evolving client requirements and emerging trends. As a senior member of the Global Business Team, he/she will play an important role in influencing SPDR’s overall strategic and product direction to achieve its growth aspirations.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Lead, mentor and develop a high performing, global team representing SSGA externally and with institutional and intermediary clients as ETF product subject matter experts to drive sales and adoption

  • Work with colleagues in CCG to identify and progress client opportunities through product education, insights on investment topics and identifying solutions to client needs

  • Take into account investment trends, asset allocation opportunities, client and market insights, competitive landscape and overall strategic priorities, to define and develop product priorities, sales engagement strategies, and sales material to support product launches and investment themes, working in partnership with Investments and CCG colleagues

  • Establish sales objectives for the team by product, region, market segment and client type

  • Drive content for ETF thought leadership and white papers; create and collate compelling, timely thought leadership and market commentary in coordination with the Investments organization

  • Coordinate with external ETF partners (eg World Gold Council, Blackstone) to develop/align a compelling investment narrative for partner ETFs.

  • Utilize, gather and synthesize information from a variety of internal and external sources for ETF product performance, competitive industry landscape, firm product performance, and peer performance to inform product positioning; assist in product development and commercialization initiatives

  • Facilitate an awareness and understanding of SPDR’s strategy and priorities across key internal partners; educate and train internal audiences on ETF investment strategies and products

  • Maintain a consistent presence at industry conferences and client events; work with colleagues in Marketing and Communications to ensure crisp messaging, media engagement and awareness within global intermediary and institutional communities

  • Manage to a budget, while maximizing the time and resources of the ETF Sales Strategy team

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record of leading, motivating and managing a high performing, client-facing specialist team that can engage well with both intermediary and institutional clients to deliver sales results across different market environments

  • Demonstrable record of business plan development and business building success

  • Excellent sales skills and in-depth ETF product and technical knowledge; proficiency in portfolio construction, capital markets, industry trends, and product strategies; demonstrated understanding of the asset management industry and general ETF landscape

  • Demonstrated ability to harmonize global and regional objectives and balance competing interests, to arrive at a practical and consensus based solution with objectivity, good judgment and agility

  • Highly self-motivated, with strong personal and organizational accountability; proactive in nature, intellectually curious, detail-oriented and team-focused; high degree of professional discretion, integrity and judgment

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with strong executive presence, credibility, knowledge and presentation skills to articulate complex matters simply and convincingly

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; demonstrated ability to influence and cultivate strong relationships with clients and internal colleagues (across CCG, Marketing, Investments, Capital Markets, Product, Operations and Communications, among others); recognized as a partner and resource to all

  • Strong investment acumen; ability to articulate investment process and portfolio performance; knowledge of portfolio construction techniques and model portfolio development; strong financial markets knowledge across multiple asset classes spanning active and passive investment styles.

  • In depth Capital Markets expertise and understanding of trading and liquidity characteristics across multiple asset classes. Rich knowledge of derivatives and usage of ETFS as a capital market instrument

  • Experience engaging with due diligence professionals, portfolio managers and CIOs

  • Exercises sound judgment in resolving complex issues in a practical manner

  • At least 10 years of ETF experience required and experience presenting to clients directly; experience covering US wealth intermediaries is a plus, but not required
