Who we are looking for

The Head of Cloud Platforms will have global responsibility of leading our Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) to drive State Street’s Multi Hybrid Cloud Strategy. Our cloud platforms will be the backbone for business innovation and this position will report directly to the Global CTO within our Technology Platform Engineering and Operations (TPEO) organization. The candidate will work directly with senior leadership to develop strategic plans; incubate the CCoE, engineer and operate best in class, secure, highly performant and resilient cloud platforms in support of our business strategy.

What you will be responsible for

As Head of Cloud Platforms will be responsible for

  • Providing strategic leadership for State Street’s multi cloud strategy in alignment with overall company goals ensuring compliant; secure; scalable and resilient Cloud platforms
  • Single threaded ownership of cloud platforms with a product mindset.
  • Spearheading the design, engineering, deployment and operations of best-in-class Cloud platforms ensuring they meet our internal and industry standards as applicable
  • Managing and publishing Cloud platform roadmaps and service catalogs
  • Proactively identifying and managing risks in the environment and driving hygiene in the environment through appropriate preventative and detective controls.
  • Establish KPIs and metrics to evaluate platform performance and user satisfaction, making data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.
  • Building, leading, mentoring and inspiring a global & diverse team of platform engineers, software engineers, and architects to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Managing the cloud platforms budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet strategic objectives as well significantly contributing to our FinOps practice
  • Identify; build and nurture strategic partnerships with Cloud Service Providers, technology vendors and third-party service providers to enhance platform capabilities and align to latest innovations in the market.
  • Participating in Cloud / technology focused special interest groups, stay abreast of industry trends both regulatory and technology; competitor offerings, and emerging technologies to inform platform enhancements and drive competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business application team, cybersecurity, legal and compliance, lines of defense etc to align platform capabilities in supporting our business

  • Experience incubating a Cloud Center of Excellence
  • Proven track record of successfully engineering and managing cloud landing zones and software services preferably in AWS and Azure to sustain deployment of mission critical workloads in a highly regulated environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of variety of capabilities, tools and technologies required to drive a multi Cloud control plane and landing zone environment in a multi geo; multi region and operationally resilient posture
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with business Application development / product teams to enable successful delivery of cloud and platform services to enable superior Developer experience
  • Proven experience of working with global regulatory bodies like FRB, FCA, PRA, MAS etc around cloud controls and compliance
  • Software engineering and design thinking approach to problem solving.
  • Product management mindset to drive cloud platform capabilities
  • Proven experience with managing Cloud contracts and spend.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in performance metrics and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a proven track record of building greenfield products and solutions.
  • Excellent technical architecture skills, enabling the creation of future-proof, complex global platforms and solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills required to operate and navigate a complex organization as a leading member of global, distributed teams that deliver quality services and solutions.
  • Ability to rapidly gain knowledge of the firm's organizational structure to facilitate work with groups outside the immediate team and foster healthy working relationships.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (CS, CE, CIS, IS, MIS, or engineering discipline) or equivalent work experience
  • 15+ years overall IT industry experience with atleast 5+ years in a role driving Cloud Strategy or Cloud platform engineering in a highly regulated financial services institution with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role
  • Extensive working knowledge with one of the hyperscaler Cloud provider preferably – AWS or Azure. Well versed with foundational constructs around Compute, Networking, Security and Storage
  • Experience with Entra as a IDP; Cloud Posture Management Tools like JupiterOne, Wiz; SIEM tools like Splunk.
  • Experience with IaC tools like Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD tooling viz Jenkins ; Harness and other DevSecOps tooling.
  • Deep working knowledge of NIST 800-53, Cloud Security Alliance(CSA) Cloud control matrix (CCM 4.0), NIST CyberSecurity framework and knowledge of regulatory frameworks like GDPR, DORA etc
  • Proven execution experience using Agile methodologies.
  • Product Management experience will be an additional plus.

Salary Range:

$225,000 - $337,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
