Global Cybersecurity (GCS) protects State Street and its clients from the impact of cyber-attacks against systems by understanding the risks these attacks present and mitigating them through a robust, continuously evolving, cybersecurity program and control environment.
Fusion & Security Operations (F&SO) is one of five functions that make up GCS. F&SO works to provide real-time knowledge of cyber threats of today collectively to better prepare State Street for threats of tomorrow.
Why this role is important to us
The Managing Director will lead the Emerging Threats and Purple Team function within Global Cybersecurity. This role is responsible for anticipating, simulating, and mitigating advanced cyber threats through proactive threat hunting, adversary emulation, and collaborative defense exercises. The position combines strategic leadership with technical expertise to strengthen the bank’s resilience against evolving attack vectors and regulatory requirements.
What you will be responsible for
- Define and execute a global strategy for emerging threat detection and purple team operations.
- Align threat-led initiatives with enterprise risk appetite, regulatory mandates (e.g., FFIEC, OCC), and business objectives.
- Serve as the executive sponsor for threat intelligence integration and offensive security programs.
- Oversee purple team exercises combining red (attack) and blue (defense) capabilities to validate and enhance detection and response.
- Lead adversary emulation, penetration testing, and threat-led assessments across global environments.
- Ensure readiness for external regulatory penetration tests and industry-driven threat scenarios.
- Drive proactive threat hunting programs to identify advanced threats that evade traditional defenses.
- Integrate emerging threat intelligence into operational workflows and security controls.
- Collaborate with Cyber Fusion and Security Operations teams to operationalize intelligence findings.
- Maintain adherence to global cybersecurity standards and frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001).
- Partner with Lines of Defense to remediate findings from threat-led exercises and audits.
- Provide executive reporting on threat trends, program maturity, and risk posture.

Education & Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with at least 5 years in offensive security or threat intelligence leadership roles.
- Deep expertise in adversary emulation, penetration testing, and purple team methodologies.
- Strong understanding of financial services regulatory frameworks and threat-led testing requirements.
- Relevant certifications: OSCP, OSCE, GPEN, GWAPT, plus leadership credentials like CISSP or CISM.
- Exceptional communication and executive influence skills.
- Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity or related technical discipline
Salary Range:
$170,000 - $282,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
