Managing Director, Executive Communications & PR, SSIM

State Street is seeking a seasoned executive communications leader to join its Global Public Relations team as Managing Director, Public Relations & Executive Communications for State Street Investment Management (SSIM). This role will lead integrated PR strategies that elevate SSIM’s brand globally, driving proactive storytelling and reputation-building initiatives across earned, owned and shared channels.

This role will also partner closely with SSIM’s senior leadership – including the CEO, CIO, Chief Business Officer, and international executives – to shape and amplify their voices externally through media engagements, conferences, thought leadership and awards. Reporting to the Global Head of PR, this position will be based in New York or Boston.

The ideal candidate is deeply connected within the financial media landscape, proactive in driving executive visibility, and skilled at storyline development. They should be a trusted advisor during high-pressure moments, combining strategic thinking with flawless execution, serving as a sounding board for leadership, and helping prioritize messaging that aligns with SSIM’s commercial priorities.

The candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing, global environment, demonstrating a ‘client-service’ approach for our internal stakeholders. They must be outcome-driven, possess strong writing and editing skills, and excel at creating media-engaging social and digital content. Exceptional organizational ability, attention to detail and experience managing PR programs and agencies are essential. Finally, they should be skilled at navigating the complexities of a highly regulated industry.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Executive Positioning: Build and manage comprehensive executive platforms, including messaging frameworks, speeches, op-eds, and presentations for high-stakes engagements.
  • Media Influence & Relationships: Leverage deep connections with top-tier business, banking, and financial trade publications; proactively pitch complex stories and secure coverage that elevates SSIM’s leadership.
  • Event Integration: Partner with events team to prepare executives for major conferences, client summits, and industry forums; oversee briefing materials and run-of-show.
  • Issues & Reputation Management: Serve as a trusted advisor during reputational challenges, helping executives prioritize, maintain composure, and communicate clearly under pressure.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with PR, Marketing, public affairs, and regional teams to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Measurement & Impact: Define KPIs for executive communications and use data-driven insights to refine strategies.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 15+ years of experience in communications/public relations with a proven track record of securing top-tier media coverage
  • Significant experience in asset management and extensive relationships with journalists covering the industry
  • In-house or agency experience considered
  • Strong command of traditional, digital, social, and integrated marketing tactics
  • Exceptional client management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create and manage integrated PR/marketing plans and timelines
  • A collaborative team player with a can-do attitude

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $267,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
