Position Overview

State Street Investment Management (“State Street IM”, formerly State Street Global Advisors) is seeking a highly experienced Engineering and AI Specialist to accelerate the delivery of innovative technology solutions across Portfolio Management and Fixed Income platforms. This VP III–level role will report directly to the Global Head of Portfolio Management and Fixed Income Technology and will work in close partnership with the Global Head of Portfolio Management Engineering – Fixed Income.

This role is designed for a senior technologist and problem solver who combines deep engineering expertise with advanced AI, data, and analytics capabilities. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert in modern solutioning techniques, helping unblock complex engineering challenges, rapidly prototype and industrialize new capabilities, and materially improve time-to-market for front office solutions.

This position will be based out of Boston is part of the Investment Technology and Business COO organization.

You will directly influence how quickly new ideas move from concept to production and how effectively modern AI-enabled capabilities are embedded into the investment lifecycle.

What you will be responsible for

As VP III – Engineering & AI Specialist, Portfolio Management & Fixed Income Technology, you will serve as a hands-on technical leader and innovation catalyst across the front office technology landscape.

Engineering Leadership & Advanced Solutioning

  • Act as a senior engineering authority across Portfolio Management and Fixed Income technology, providing deep technical guidance on architecture, design, and implementation.
  • Serve as the go-to expert for modern engineering, AI, and data solutioning techniques, including agentic AI, generative AI, advanced analytics, and cloud-native patterns.
  • Unblock the most complex and ambiguous engineering challenges by applying innovative, non‑traditional, and research-driven approaches.
  • Rapidly prototype, validate, and industrialize solutions that improve portfolio construction, analytics, workflow efficiency, and decision support.

AI, Data & Innovation Acceleration

  • Identify and apply agentic and generative AI capabilities to enhance portfolio manager productivity, analytics workflows, and client-facing capabilities.
  • Partner with engineering, data, and investment teams to embed AI and advanced data techniques into existing platforms and new initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and translate them into practical, scalable solutions suitable for a regulated institutional environment.
  • Drive the adoption of modern data platforms, APIs, and analytics tooling to accelerate experimentation and delivery.

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Global Head of Portfolio Management and Fixed Income Technology to support strategic initiatives, priority programs, and critical deliveries.
  • Partner day-to-day with the Global Head of Portfolio Management Engineering – Fixed Income and engineering leads to improve delivery velocity and solution quality.
  • Collaborate across Investments, Trading, Risk, Data, and Enterprise Technology teams to ensure alignment and reuse of capabilities.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes.

Engineering Excellence & Governance

  • Promote engineering excellence through best practices in design, testing, performance, and reliability.
  • Ensure solutions adhere to State Street IM standards for security, risk, compliance, and data governance.
  • Contribute to architectural direction while remaining deeply hands-on where the highest value is required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, data platforms, or advanced analytics within financial services or complex enterprise environments.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in modern engineering architectures, cloud platforms, APIs, and data-intensive systems.
  • Strong practical experience with AI/ML, advanced analytics, and emerging generative and agentic AI techniques.
  • Proven ability to solve highly complex technical problems and deliver innovative solutions in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of front office investment workflows, preferably within Fixed Income or multi-asset portfolio management.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience working in institutional asset management or similarly regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to bridge research-grade innovation with enterprise-grade delivery.

Salary Range:

$120,000 - $217,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
